Abstract: Alternate access for physically impaired users to items normally displayed in drop down menus is provided by furnishing to users conventional means for displaying a sequential set of drop down menus, each having a plurality of selectable items together with conventional selection means scrolled along each of said menus. However, if the user feels unable to use or frustrated in using such scrolling menu techniques, he has the option to choose to display, as an alternative to this set of sequential menus, a hierarchical arrangement of selectable items corresponding to items in said set of menus. In the case where the menus in the sequential set of drop down menus sequentially vary from each other in scope, then the alternative hierarchical arrangement of selectable items may be a tree of items with sequential levels of varying scope respectively corresponding to the varying scope of said set of menus.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for managing confidential information in a data processing system server. Information is received from a plurality of users. The information is stored on a server for many different uses and in many different files and databases. A request is received from the client to remove specific selected information from the stored information for a user within the set of users, wherein the selected information is received in response to a transaction involving that user. In response to receiving the request, the selected information is removed from the stored information, thus maintaining the privacy requests of that user.

Abstract: Providing the user with a complete historical sequence of changed versions of a bookmarked Web document at any time that the user needs and, thus, requests the bookmarked Web document. A combination of bookmarking a received Web document that in turn sets up the tracking for changed versions of the bookmarked document. Also included is an implementation for storing a historical sequence of versions of said bookmarked document that is responsive to a user request at a receiving station for said bookmarked document and enables the user to select any one of said versions of said bookmarked document. When the user bookmarks a Web document, he is preferably enabled, i.e. given the option of conventionally bookmarking without tracking for changed versions or selecting to activate the tracking means. The invention provides for obtaining the changed versions of the bookmarked documents, including versions at changed URLs.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for removing information in a data processing system. A selection of information for removal is received from a history generated by a browser, wherein the selection is received prior to a browser session. In response to a termination of the browser session, the information is automatically removed from the history using the selection without requiring a user input.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for managing a history for a browser in a data processing system. A history is recorded for a browser. The history may be presented to the user in a fashion similar to a video or slide show presentation in which Web pages in the history are sequentially presented in the order of visitation. The presentation of the history may be manipulated through a set of controls, such as a play button, a reverse button, a fast forward button, and a stop button. Potions of the history may be deleted or selectively exported for analysis or later use.

The confidential information is manipulated using the user input.

Abstract: A system and process for monitoring web pages are implemented. The web page includes at least a portion dynamically generated in response to client data. A set of hooks, constituting alternative entries in methods for performing actions on the client data are listed, in which the hooks correspond to at least a portion of the client data. The client data is passed to the corresponding methods using the hooks, and wherein a web page is not returned to a client in response to the passing the client data.

Abstract: Enhancing access for physically impaired users to selectable items in a hierarchical arrangement through the preliminary testing of a user response time in moving a user controlled on-screen pointer from a start point over an equal distance to each of a plurality of said selectable items of different sizes in combination with implements responsive to this preliminary testing means for sizing a set of items in said hierarchical arrangement to provide said user with enhanced access to said items in said set.

Abstract: A method, system, and computer program product for reducing false sharing in a distributed computing environment, and in particular to a multi-processor data processing system. A method is proposed to define a virtual address range, within the system memory available to the processors, which will have a finer granularity than the default page size. These smaller sections, called “sub-pages,” allow more efficient memory management. For example, a 64 Kilobyte range may be defined to have a 512 byte granularity rather than 4 Kilobytes, with each 512-byte sub-page capable of being separately managed.

Abstract: A mechanism is provided by which a logical volume manager may allow features to be added and modified without having to modify the logical volume manager code. The present invention provides an logical volume manager engine, which attempts to load feature plug-ins that are stored as dynamic link libraries. The logical volume manager also includes application program interfaces to make it possible for user interfaces and other programs that communicate with the LVM Engine to communicate with features created by third parties. The logical volume manager is also modified to eliminate assumptions about the number and order of features being applied to the volume. Features may be selected and ordered by a user at the time of volume creation.
