Patent number: 5074803Abstract: A data connector is disclosed herein having a premolded one-piece insulative boot housing which is slidably receivable over a shielded subassembly to form a shielded data connector. The one-piece premolded boot housing includes integral latching arms pivotal relative to the housing portion via molded web hinges. The ends of the latching arms adacent the mating face of the connector include hermaphroditic latching members which are capable of latching to an identical electrical connector. A locking ring is receivable over the rearward side of the premolded boot housing and is movable between a locked and unlocked position. When in the locked position, transverse channels formed in the locking ring encompass free ends of the latching arms thereby preventing pivotal movement of the latching arms.Type: GrantFiled: May 30, 1991Date of Patent: December 24, 1991Assignee: AMP IncorporatedInventors: Curtis S. Chandler, Terry L. Pitts

Patent number: 4990094Abstract: A data distribution panel includes a conductive panel having openings for the receipt of electrical data connector from the rear thereof. Shielded data connectors are installed from the rear of the panel and are electrically commoned to the panel. The electrical connectors are in the form of shielded subassemblies which, when interconnected to the panel, are commoned by a finger which extends from the panel thereby contacting the subassemblies. The panel is for use with a patch cable having at each end, connectors which can be latchably interconnected to the panel to interconnect shielded subassemblies together. An interface member is also available which can interconnect electrical connectors thereto which have T-bars and T-slots.Type: GrantFiled: August 7, 1989Date of Patent: February 5, 1991Assignee: AMP IncorporatedInventors: Curtis S. Chandler, George H. Foster, Jr., David Lane, Ned A. Sigmon

Patent number: 4891022Abstract: A data connector is disclosed herein which includes a plurality of terminals situated in an insulative housing, and the housing is surrounded by shielding members to form a shielded subassembly, the shielded subassembly finally being inserted within a premolded one piece boot to form a data connector which is interconnectable to shielded data cable. The data connector of the instant invention can be field assembled and installed and is intermatable with similar data connectors having T-bars and T-slots without the complexity thereof. Alternatively, the data connector of the instant invention is interconnectable with a communications outlet locally mounted which houses similar terminals electrically interconnected to like shielded data cable.Type: GrantFiled: October 21, 1988Date of Patent: January 2, 1990Assignee: AMP IncorporatedInventors: Curtis S. Chandler, Edward K. Marsh

Patent number: 4501459Abstract: An electrical connector in which preselected terminals are shunted. Contact portions of the terminals are aligned with a shunt bar and are resiliently deformable from positions engaging the shunt bar in an unmated condition of the connector to positions spaced from the shunt bar in a mated condition of the connector by mating engagement with a complimentary connector. The shunt bar comprises a bridge portion from which contact lugs depend spaced asymmetrically along the bridge. Two shunt bars are located in tandem in back-to-back relation in a connector housing so that alternate contact tongues are aligned with respective contact lugs on respective shunt bars.Type: GrantFiled: September 20, 1984Date of Patent: February 26, 1985Assignee: AMP IncorporatedInventors: Curtis S. Chandler, Larry G. Novotny, Elvert S. Watts

Patent number: 4211463Abstract: The disclosure relates to a one-piece metal clamp which is secured to a plastic connector housing having multiple electrical terminals for connection to respective wires contained in a multiple wire cable. The clamp is adapted to grasp the cable and anchor the same to the connector. The clamp is readily closed and secured on the cable without a need for a clasp. As a consequence, the clamp may be readily opened by prying with a suitable tool without incurring damage to either the clamp or the cable. The clamp is designed for preventing excessive closure on the cable and for preventing piercing or other damage to the cable.Type: GrantFiled: February 12, 1979Date of Patent: July 8, 1980Assignee: AMP IncorporatedInventor: Curtis S.
