Patent number: 11906375Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to methods for low-cost, high-volume production of strain gages having substantially uniform gage-to-gage resistances. Strain gages in accordance with the present disclosure are sculpted from a device layer of a semiconductor-on-insulator wafer using deep reactive ion etching, thereby enabling well-controlled electrical properties and physical dimensions of the strain gages. In some embodiments, groups of fully fabricated strain gages are physically connected to handling frames via sprues to facilitate handling, automated assembly, and/or tracing of individual gages from the beginning of fabrication through final packaging. In some embodiments, sprues are configured to mitigate accidental separation of the gages from their frames while simultaneously enabling their removal in response to specific forces applied by a handling tool.Type: GrantFiled: March 21, 2022Date of Patent: February 20, 2024Assignee: Piezo-Metrics IncInventors: Franklin Curtis Wong, Robert Andrew Mueller, Kimberly Lakea Harrison, Farzad Khademolhosseini, Carolyn D. Patent number: 11007891Abstract: A system and method for providing extreme fast charging of electric vehicles that mimics the typical gas station experience while also supporting local grid energy management using a distributed network of extremely fast charging stations to form a large virtual resource for the grid. The system consists of a controller unit responsible for system operation tasks, a high-voltage battery pack capable of rapid discharge rates to support extreme fast charging, a cloud-based database to persist and manage system and network data, a DC electric vehicle outlet for providing charging, safety systems, and power electronic equipment configured to allow bi-directional flow of power between a local, low-voltage AC grid and the extreme fast charging station. The bi-directional capabilities of the power electronic circuits within the system allow the charging station to provide power resources, stored within the high-voltage battery pack, to help support local grid power consumption.Type: GrantFiled: October 30, 2020Date of Patent: May 18, 2021Assignee: ELECTRICFISH ENERGY INC.Inventors: Anurag Kamal, Nelio Batista do Nascimento, Jr., Vincent Curtis Wong

Patent number: 8399054Abstract: A method is disclosed for growing metal (including semiconductor metal) nanowires from a film deposited on a substrate. In an illustrative embodiment tin and silicon are co-deposited, such as by sputtering, on a silicon substrate at, for example, ambient temperature. The deposited tin and silicon do not mix and the film has a tin phase dispersed in a higher melting, lower coefficient of thermal expansion, silicon phase. Upon heating, the tin expands against the silicon and expels small tin wires from the upper surface of the film. Other metal or metal alloy wires may be formed in a like manner using a matrix material and substrate in film deposition that don't mix with the metal composition and, when heated, force the expanding metal to extrude from the film surface as small diameter wires.Type: GrantFiled: January 8, 2010Date of Patent: March 19, 2013Assignee: Gm Global Technology Operations LLCInventors: Xingcheng Xiao, Curtis A. Wong, Anil K. Sachdev

Patent number: 8316389Abstract: A system and method are disclosed to facilitates programming of a recording device. A client system is operatively coupled with the recording device, which, for example, is programmed and/or configured to record selected audio and/or visual broadcast programming. The client system receives a message, such as in the form of electronic mail (email) or another suitable form, from a remotely located computer. One or more tokens are associated with the message for providing program criteria indicative of selected audio and/or visual programming, which may be employed to program the recording device for recording broadcast programming based on the token.Type: GrantFiled: August 9, 2007Date of Patent: November 20, 2012Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Curtis Wong, Steven Drucker

Patent number: 7979881Abstract: A token schema is provided for identifying a broadcast audio and/or visual program to facilitate recording of the identified program. The token schema includes program criteria for identifying a corresponding audio/or visual program, which is sufficient to enable a recording system that receives the token to record the identified program based on the token. A token also represents an audio and/or visual program in a form that may be sent to one or more recipients, such as part of an email message or by other data transport mechanisms.Type: GrantFiled: August 29, 2000Date of Patent: July 12, 2011Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Curtis Wong, Steven Drucker

Publication number: 20110013885Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for providing program criteria representing a plurality of audio and/or visual programs. A plurality of tokens are stored in a database of one or more computers, each token having an identifier for identifying a predetermined audio and/or visual program. Each token may be a universal program identifier that represents a specific program in a global programming environment (e.g., the token may identify a program across multiple tuning spaces). Alternatively or additionally, a token may be a tuning-space specific program identifier that represents program criteria associated with a specific program for particular tuning space. The server is programmed to provide at least one token to a remote computer based on selection criteria.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 8, 2010Publication date: January 20, 2011Applicant: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Curtis Wong, Steven Drucker
