Abstract: An apparatus including a keypad, pressure sensors and electrotactile feedback electrodes. The keypad includes a plurality of keys. Each of the keys has a top surface. The pressure sensors are located under the top surfaces of the keys. The electrotactile feedback electrodes are located at the top surfaces of the keys.

Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are provided for facilitating sharing device connections across multiple physical and/or virtual (logical) computers. A method may include receiving a USB device request from a virtual host controller driver of a client when a host is not in a power save mode and passing a USB device request to a host controller driver of the client when the host is in a power save mode. A method may also include activating a sharing switch of a host controller to connect a device connection port to the host when the host is not in a power save mode and to connect the device connection port to the client when the host is in a power save mode. Corresponding apparatuses and computer program products are also provided.

Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are provided for providing a virtual machine with dynamic direct assignment of a physical hardware resource. A method may include providing a virtual machine with a directly assigned physical hardware resource and an emulated hardware resource corresponding to the directly assigned physical hardware resource. The method may further include causing the virtual machine to hot-swap from using the directly assigned physical hardware resource to using the emulated hardware resource. The method may additionally include, subsequent to causing the virtual machine to hot-swap to using the emulated hardware resource, causing the directly assigned physical hardware resource to be hot-removed from the virtual machine Corresponding apparatuses are also provided.

Abstract: Phishing attacks succeed by exploiting a user's inability to distinguish legitimate websites from spoofed websites. Most prior work focuses on assisting the user in making this distinction; however, users must make the right security decision every time. Unfortunately, humans are ill-suited for performing the security checks necessary for secure site identification, and a single mistake may result in a total compromise of the user's online account. Fundamentally, users should be authenticated using information that they cannot readily reveal to malicious parties. Placing less reliance on the user during the authentication process enhances security and eliminates many forms of fraud. We disclose using a trusted device to perform mutual authentication that eliminates reliance on perfect user behavior, thwarts Man-in-the-Middle attacks after setup, and protects a user's account even in the presence of keyloggers and most forms of spyware.

Abstract: An approach is provided for context-aware control of sensors and sensor data. A sensor manager determines context information based, at least in part, on one or more sensors. The sensor manager also determines resource consumption information associated with a one or more other sensors, one or more functions of the one or more other sensors, or a combination thereof. The sensor manager then processes and/or facilitates a processing of the context information and the resource consumption information to determine at least one operational state associated with the one or more other sensors, the one or more functions of the one or more other sensors, or a combination thereof.

Abstract: A method comprises receiving a request for generating a challenge for a device or a user of the device. The method also comprises determining location information associated with the device. The method further comprises determining one or more characteristics that are detectable based, at least in part, on the location information. Furthermore, the method comprises generating the challenge based, at least in part, the one or more characteristics.

Abstract: An approach is provided for managing and rendering notifications (i.e., notifications from one or more sources). A notification manager receives one or more requests for rendering one or more notifications at a device. In response to the one or more requests, the notification manager determines one or more notification policies at a device. Further, the notification manager determines one or more schedules for rendering the one or more notifications and causes, at least in part, rendering of the one or more notifications.

Abstract: An approach is provided for providing guidance information to a user. A request is received, from a device, for guidance information to a destination, wherein the guidance information includes, at least in part, instructions for following a route to the destination. A plurality of candidate reference points associated with the route are determined. One or more of the plurality of candidate reference points are selected to include in the instructions based on saliency of the one or more candidate reference points with respect to one or more comprehension parameters associated with a user. The instructions are generated based on the one or more selected reference points. The comprehension parameters relate to the ability of the user to recognize the selected one or more reference points.

Abstract: A system and method are provided for visually building multi-channel and multi-modal applications. The system includes a process design module for designing application workflow, an integration design module for integrating data sources into the application; a presentation design module for designing application views; a media library; and a componentization module, for packaging designed workflow into reusable components. The system further includes an interactive development/design environment (IDE). The IDE provides a graphical user interface for allowing a developer to visually interact with and operate modules. The system allows a developer to design a single application that can operate across multiple network standards, devices, browsers and languages, and that operate in one or more modes, such as real-time, off-line and asynchronous modes.

Abstract: An approach is provided for customizing map presentations. A semantic mapping platform determines context information for rendering a map on a user device. The semantic mapping platform then classifies a plurality of objects available for display in the map based on a level of association of each of the objects with the context information. The semantic mapping platform also prioritizes rendering of the objects based on the classification and causes, at least in part, actions that result in the rendering of the objects in the map according to the prioritization.

The potentially fraudulent document is rendered in the browser such that the links within are not accessible to the user. The rendering may include superimposing an image over the document or rendering a snapshot of the document instead of the document itself.
