Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for providing an enhanced contextual chat feature in online environments. The contextual chat feature may be used to present users with a list of expressions that may be sent to other users within an online environment (or to users in other online environments). The list of messages may be derived from a linguistic profile which itself may change as the use of language in an online environment (or by a particular user group) evolves, over time. In cases where a user sends a contextual chat message to another user in the same online environment, messages may be sent without being altered. However, when a user selects a contextual chat message from the list to send to a user in another online environment, the message may be translated based on a linguistic profile associated with users in the second environment.

Abstract: A method of and system for transmitting video images preferably allows a specially trained individual to remotely supervise, instruct, and observe administration of medical tests conducted at remote locations. This system preferably includes a source device, a transmitting device, and at least one remote receiving device. The transmitting device, and the remote receiving device communicate over a network such as any appropriate data network. The transmitting device transmits the video images to the remote receiving device either for live display from the source device or for pre-recorded display from a video recorder device. The remote receiving device is also capable of communicating with the transmitting device while simultaneously receiving video images to provide remote control. The source device is preferably a medical test device such as an ultrasound, a sonogram, an echocardiogram, an angioplastigram, and the like.

Abstract: Methods, medium, and machines which compress, encode, enhance, transmit, decompress and display digital video images in real time. Real time compression is achieved by sub-sampling each frame of a video signal, matching the illumination intensity value representing each pixel with a line number, incrementing a repeat counter, and encoding a repeat data structure with the repeat counter and line number data structure with the line number forming a compressed stream of data. Real time transmission of video images is achieved due to high levels of effective compression. Real time decompression is achieve by decoding and decompressing the encoded data to display high quality images. High levels of effective compression also reduce the storage space requirement for recorded video.
