    Abstract: Damage to a flexible display can be prevented. A display device having improved mechanical strength can be provided. A display device (10) includes a display panel (11) and a protection cover (12). The display panel (11) includes a first portion having flexibility. The protection cover (12) has a light-transmitting property and flexibility and is provided to overlap with a display surface side of the display panel (11). The display device (10) has a function of being reversibly changed in shape to a first mode in which the display panel (11) and the protection cover (12) are each substantially flat and a second mode in which the first portion of the display panel (11) is curved such that the display surface side becomes a concave surface and part of the protection cover (12) is curved in the same direction as the first portion. In the second mode, there is a gap between the first portion and the protection cover.

The first EL film and the second EL film are etched by dry etching, and the first sacrificial layer is removed by wet etching.

    Abstract: A high-resolution, high-definition, or large display apparatus is provided. A metal mask is placed over an EL layer and film deposition is performed with the metal mask, whereby an island-shaped counter electrode is formed. Then, the EL layer is processed using the counter electrode as a hard mask. Alternatively, after an EL layer and a counter electrode are formed over an entire surface, processing using a metal mask is performed. An insulating layer that electrically insulates adjacent pixel electrodes from each other is positioned between adjacent light-emitting devices. A resist mask is formed over the insulating layer. A plurality of EL layers and a plurality of counter electrodes overlapping each other over the insulating layer are partly removed using the resist mask, whereby part of the insulating layer is exposed. Thus, the adjacent light-emitting devices are electrically insulated from each other over the insulating layer.

    Abstract: An optical device with less influence of stray light is provided. The optical device is thin and includes a half mirror, a first lens, a retardation plate, a reflective polarizing plate, and a second lens. In the optical device, a geometric phase lens which has negative and positive refractive power is used as the first lens, whereby images can be focused after magnified optically. Thus, the optical device can have a wide viewing angle. In the case where stray light occurs due to birefringence of an optical material, negative refractive power of the first lens can prevent the stray light from being focused on the eye direction. Accordingly, image degradation recognized due to stray light can be prevented.
