Abstract: A method for treating and/or preventing BPH prostatitis, alopecia and hirsutism including administering a medication of the pharmaceutical composition obtained from the green or mature fruits of Roystonea regia including a mixture of primary fatty acids with 8 to 28 carbon atoms, the fatty acid selected from the group consisting of caprilic acid (C8:0), capric acid (C10:0), lauric acid (C12:0), miristic acid (C14:0), palmitic acid (C16:0), palmitoleic acid (C16:1), stearic acid (C18:0), oleic acid (C18:1), linoleic acid, and linolenic acid and a mixture of esters of the fatty acids, and free fatty acids are enriched from ester hydrolysis.

Abstract: A method for obtaining a pharmaceutical composition from Roystonea regia whole fruit including drying, grinding, and sieving the Roystonea regia whole fruit, and separating an extract through a solid/liquid extraction in organic solvents with the organic solvents are selected from hydrocarbons of 5 to 8 carbon atoms, alcohols of 1 to 3 carbon atoms, and mixture thereof, with or without a previous basic hydrolysis using hydroxides or alkalis.

Abstract: The invention relates to a novel pharmaceutical composition and to the method of producing same from the fruits of the royal palm (Roystonea regia) in order to prevent and/or treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and prostatitis as well as alopecia and hirsutism. The inventive composition comprises a mixture of free fatty acids and/or the esters thereof, within a range of between 8 and 28 carbon atoms, in particular between 8 and 18 carbon atoms, and, more specifically, saturated straight-chain free fatty acids with 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 carbon atoms and mono-unsaturated free fatty acids with 16:1 and 18:1 carbon atoms. The inventive method of producing the aforementioned composition comprises the drying and crushing of the fruits, with optional basic hydrolysis, and, subsequently, selective extraction in organic solvents.

Abstract: A mixture of higher primary aliphatic alcohols of 22 to 38 carbon atoms can be obtained by saponifying and extracting steps with organic solvents from sugar cane wax. The mixture which contains tetracosanol, hexacosanol, heptacosanol, octacosanol, nonacosanol, triacontanol, dotriacontanol and tetratriacontanol can be used for the treatment of hypercholesterolemia, and atherosclerotic complications as platelet hyperaggregabiulity, ischemia and thrombosis, and prevents drug induced gastric ulcer and improves male sexual activity.
