  • Patent number: 6021834
Abstract: A retractable awning assembly includes a roller, a flexible canopy having an inner edge secured to a wall and an outer edge secured to the roller, and a pair of arm assemblies operable to move the roller between a retracted position adjacent the wall and an extended position spaced from the wall. Each arm assembly includes a support arm of fixed length and a rafter arm of variable length. The support arm includes a tube and a bracket rigidly secured at an intermediate position along the tube. The rafter arm includes telescoping inner and outer tubes and an inward facing button lock for automatically locking the tubes in extended relation. The support arm has an upper end operably connected to the roller and a lower end pivotally secured to the wall. The rafter arm has an outer end pivotally connected to the support arm bracket and an inner end pivotally secured to the wall.

  • Patent number: 6006810
Abstract: An awning assembly for mounting to a curved wall. The awning assembly includes a canopy secured to a roller assembly. The roller assembly is supported by a pair of extensible support arms and a pair of extensible rafters. Each of the support arms includes upper and lower arms locked together by a locking assembly. Inner ends of the rafter are pivotably connected to upper brackets adapted for mounting to the wall. Outer ends of the rafters are slidably and pivotably connected to the support arms. The support arms and the rafters are curved so as to conform to the wall when the awning assembly is in a stored position. Pins extending from the upper brackets space the support arms from the wall when the awning assembly is in the stored position.

  • Patent number: 5944085
Abstract: A retractable awning is provided with a multiple position pivot support adapted for mounting the awning in different installations. A flange of a mounting bracket fits in one of several slots in the support according to a wall and awning rail structure. A roller is provided with a notch into which is wedged a rope in a hem pocket of the awning. The notch retains the rope and holds the awning taut. Rafter arms a pivotably attached to slides held in slideways on external faces of support arms. A stop and latch mechanism hold the rafter in an extended position so that pivoting of the support arms does not change tension of the awning. An improved roller lock uses a pair of pawls engaging a gear. A spring biases the lock to either of two engaged positions.

  • Patent number: 5669430
Abstract: An awning assembly for a recreational vehicle has a pair of pivoting support arms supporting a roller. Rafters are pivotably and slidably mounted to the support arms and maintain the awning in an extended position. In a stowed position, the rafters and support arms are parallel and extend vertically along a wall of the vehicle. The support arms have bent upper ends so that the roller is positioned above a top edge of the wall to provide a low profile in the stowed position. Existing support arms can be equipped with bent extension adapters. A sliding latch is mounted on the support arm and engages the rafter when the awning is stowed. The latch is spring biased to a latching position and has a bolt that automatically retracts similar to a door bolt.

  • Patent number: 5636675
Abstract: An improved awning assembly for a recreational vehicle has the awning rolled around a roller tube and stowed against a wall. Support arms pivot upwardly to a stowed and latched position parallel with the roller tube and pivot downwardly therefrom. The support arms are attached to hooks or a latching assembly on the vehicle. Rafter arms slide in a channel at the wall and are positioned to tension the awning. The awning provides a compact and attractive assembly in the stowed position and is easily erected by one person.

  • Patent number: 5622214
Abstract: An improved awning assembly for a recreational vehicle has the awning rolled around a roller tube. A lead rail is attached to an edge of the awning. Support arms are stowed and latched in the lead rail and pivot downwardly therefrom. A sliding and pivoting latch mechanism holds the lead rail in the retracted position. The support arms are attached to feet on the vehicle with a spring latch mechanism. Spring loaded rafter arms slide in a channel on the back of the lead rail and are positioned to tension the awning. The awning provides a compact and attractive assembly in the stowed position and is easily erected by one person.

  • Patent number: 5472007
Abstract: A retractable awning is provided to be mounted on a side of a recreational vehicle. The awning includes a canopy, a roller about which the canopy can be can be rolled or unrolled, a pair of support arms, a pair of tension rafters, and at least one latch or spring clip to retain the awning adjacent the vehicle while traveling. The support arms define a longitudinally extending channel and have a pair of flanges inwardly extending from each side wall. The support arms have one end supporting the canopy and another end contacting a supporting surface. The generally rectangularly-shaped tension rafters have one end operatively secured to the side of the recreational vehicle and another end operatively connected to an associated one of the support arms. Each of the tension rafters is sized so as to be nestable in the channel of the associated support arm.
