  • Publication number: 20140034316
Abstract: A shearing device that torsionally shears an oilfield tubular by gripping the tubular at vertically spaced apart locations and exerting a torsional force at the locations. Tong assemblies are provided for gripping the tubular, where the tong assemblies include a tong member pivotally mounted on a tong arm. The tong assemblies may be housed in a blowout preventer mounted on a wellhead assembly; projecting the tong assemblies radially inward engages the tong members with the tubular, and moving the arm further radially inward imparts the torsional force onto the tubular. In an alternate embodiment, the shearing device includes holding rams that project radially inward to engage the tubular and a torque rack that tangentially engages the tubular thereby torqueing the tubular.

  • Publication number: 20120264224
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed herein for a microfluidic calorimeter apparatus. A microfluidic calorimeter system includes a calorimetry apparatus and a processor in connection with the apparatus. The apparatus includes a microfluidic laminar flow channel connected to two inlets for flowing fluid into the laminar flow channel. Below the laminar flow channel is a plurality of microscale temperature sensors at known positions in the channel. The processor is in connection with the discrete temperature sensors and determines a calorimetry measurement based on local temperatures derived from data output by the microscale temperature sensors and the respective positions of the sensors in the channel.

  • Publication number: 20120222865
Abstract: A drilling riser adapter variably connects and releases a riser from a subsea wellhead assembly. The drilling riser adapter has a hydraulically actuated engagement assembly for selectively engaging and disengaging a lower end of the marine riser. The drilling riser adapter also includes a control panel communicatively coupled to the engagement assembly for actuating the engagement assembly to engage and disengage the lower end of the marine riser. The drilling riser adapter also includes a hydraulic fluid pressure receptacle on the control panel for engagement by a remotely operated vehicle to supply hydraulic fluid pressure to the engagement assembly. The drilling riser adapter may be actuated subsea to release a first riser from the wellhead assembly, and connect to a second riser.

  • Patent number: 7007439
Abstract: A storm door has first and second elongated, partly curved lock receiving openings formed in respective elongated edges. Each opening is filled in part with a molded hollow insert with an external periphery which matches a periphery of the respective opening. A lock mechanism has a housing with an external periphery that matches, at least in part, an internal periphery of a respective insert. An actuating port in the housing has a central axis, which extends parallel to the respective edge, through the door through which extends a rotatable actuating shaft. An external handle can be attached to the shaft. An unused insert can be closed with a slidably engaging cover.

  • Patent number: 5892766
Abstract: Arbitration apparatus and method coordinate access to an output of a routing device in a packet switching network. Access to the output is granted to requests having the highest priority in a current arbitration cycle. For requests having the same priority, access is granted to the first of such requests received. Before granting a request, the arbitration apparatus ensures a receiving input buffer has sufficient space for a data packet, as well as any higher priority traffic.

  • Patent number: 5644604
Abstract: A system and method for transferring data between clock domains operating at substantially the same frequency continuously compares the relationship between a delayed data phase signal driven by a non-delayed source domain clock and a data phase signal sampled by a delayed receiving domain clock. The result of the comparison determines along which one of multiple data paths within the synchronizing circuit the transfer of the data frame will take place. Several data paths with different delays (at least two) transfer the data frame and clock signals. An XNOR comparator responds to the relationship between a delayed data phase signal driven by a non-delayed source domain clock and a data phase signal sampled by a delayed receiving domain clock to determine which one of the multiple data paths transfers the data frame.
