  • Patent number: 4642955
Abstract: Molded window assembly includes a window frame having a generally flat bottom wall to which a transom stiffener is attached, and a sill extending downwardly from the front edge of the bottom wall in front of the stiffener. End blocks are telescopically received in opposite ends of the stiffener to take up any clearance space between the ends of the stiffener and the adjacent sides of spaced apart wall studs in an opening in an exterior wall in which the window assembly is mounted above a window or patio door unit therebelow. Universal nailing plates at the outer ends of the end blocks facilitate attachment of the ends of the stiffener to the sides of the wall studs for transferring the weight of the window assembly to the wall studs.

  • Patent number: 4586306
Abstract: A window assembly includes a sash with rails and stiles that define an opening. Glazing closes the opening and a grille covers the glazing. A retaining strip releasably attaches the grille to the sash. The retaining strip extends along substantially the entire length of at least two opposite sides of the window opening and is mounted on the rail or stile closely adjacent to the glazing. The strip hardware has an elongate V-shape formed of two substantially flat arms which connect to each other at an acute angle. One of the arms of the retaining strip is adhesively mounted to the rail or stile surface, and the other of the arms, the free arm, has a ridge or arch formed in the distal end portion which engages a groove in the outer peripheral edge of the grille.

  • Patent number: 4563846
Abstract: A window assembly includes an integrally molded sash, sill, frame and exterior trim unit and wooden interior trim parts fastened to the interior side thereof. An insert such as glazing material is held in place by a wooden interior sash which presses the insert against a peripheral surface of the molded unit. The interior sash is secured in place by screws driven into bosses surrounding the insert. An integral nailing flange extends outward from the molded unit and forms a rigid flashing which is intended to fit against the sheathing of an exterior wall and subsequently covered by the exterior siding. The nailing flange serves to locate the window assembly in the wall, and has holes therein through which nails may be driven to hold the window assembly in place.
