  • Patent number: 6325119
Abstract: To produce square beams from tree trunks (13), a device is proposed in which a tree trunk (13) is first positioned by a centering device (4) such that the lengthwise axis (14) of the tree trunk (13) assumes essentially always the same stipulated position. The tree trunk (13) is then grasped by holders (11, 12) of a carriage (8) concentrically to the lengthwise axis (14), whereupon the centering device (4) is opened. Then the tree trunk (13) is guided through a band saw (5) and trimmed on the opposite sides, whereupon it is turned by 90° and the two other sides of the tree trunk (13) are trimmed.

  • Patent number: 6213176
Abstract: A device for producing squared timber from tree trunks includes a feed section, a machining center, and a delivery section; the feed section has at least two grippers which can be placed against the tree trunk to be machined and using which the tree trunk is supplied to the machining center; the machining center has several plan cutters and feed rollers in order to advance the tree trunk, while it is machined by cutting at the desired locations. The square beam is transported from the machining center onto the delivery section and then removed for further machining. The grippers may be made such that they hold the tree trunk regardless of its diameter at a height which at least roughly corresponds to the axis of the machining center.

  • Patent number: 4519283
Abstract: A sawmill utilizing a bandsaw which is movable back and forth in the operation of cutting planks from a log that is cradled in a horizontal position. The cradle and the bandsaw are so arranged that the cutting portion of the saw is inclined at an angle to the vertical and so that the cutting plane is inclined at the same angle. The bandsaw is carried on a sub-frame which reciprocates longitudinally of a main frame of the mill. The main frame is preferably mounted upon wheels so that the mill is portable and can be taken from one forestry location to another.

  • Patent number: 4407229
Abstract: A hoist for dipping a package of lumber or other similar work product into a tank of liquid is fabricated basically as a weldment of readily available steel shapes and is of a rugged, reliable design. A vertically movable carriage with forwardly projecting prongs at its lower end receives a package of work product and clamps located above the prongs tightly clamp the package to the carriage during a dipping procedure. The hoist is designed to allow package delivery and removal, to and from the hoist, by a fork lift truck. After placing a package on the hoist the fork lift operator may push a single push button and a control system for the hoist thereafter causes the hoist to automatically go through a full cycle of operation including a immersion period the length of which may be manually adjusted.
