  • Patent number: 9241320
Abstract: The invention relates to transmission and reception of clock synchronization data in a wireless communication system. According to the invention a device for transmitting clock synchronization data obtains at least one time reference of a wireless communication system clock, controls transmission of a frequency reference of the wireless communication system clock via an air interface of the wireless communication system, and provides transmission of the time reference via a transport network associated with the wireless communication system, while the base station receives the frequency reference, locks an own oscillator to the frequency of the frequency reference, receives the time reference from the transport network and adjusts timing that is controlled by the oscillator based on the time reference.

  • Publication number: 20070037593
Abstract: The present invention relates to an architectural model of a radio network unit, e.g. a Radio Base Station, that separates functionality in such a way that it is possible to easily adapt the unit to various requirements and conditions. The radio network unit comprises an internal RBS-interface that subdivides the its functionality into a first part, which solely relates to the functionality of the radio network, and a second part, which solely relates to the radio part, i.e. the airborne part of the transmission. The internal interface comprises at least a link that handles the necessary additional communication that arises due to the subdivision and a link that handles the user data that is to be processed, i.e. transmitted or received, by said unit.

  • Patent number: 6385452
Abstract: A telecommunications system and method is disclosed for reducing the signaling load on the network by instructing a Location Measurement Unit (LMU) to measure the relation between the absolute time and air interface timing, e.g., TDMA frame number, only when a positioning request has been received. Prior to configuring the LMU for time of arrival (TOA)-based positioning of a particular mobile station, the Serving Mobile Location Center (SMLC) can request an LMU associated with a particular cell to perform an asynchronous handover within the same cell. During this asynchronous handover, the LMU measures the relation between the absolute time and the TDMA frame number, and sends this relation information to the SMLC. The SMLC uses this relation information in configuring the LMU for TOA-based positioning of the particular mobile station.

  • Patent number: 6363086
Abstract: A method for combining signals being conveyed across a digital interface is disclosed. In one embodiment, a subharmonic of a frequency is superimposed on asynchronous data. The subharmonic can be used to carry a frequency reference across the digital interface. In another embodiment, a time stamp algorithm is used to carry a time reference from a master circuit to a slave circuit across a digital interface. The transmission delay between the master circuit and slave circuit is measured. The master circuit transmits time correction messages to the slave circuit, based on the time the correction message is transmitted plus the transmission delay. In another embodiment, a reset signal is carried across a digital interface by discontinuing the transfer of a frequency reference for a predetermined time. A lowpass filter can be used at the receiving side of the interface to recognize the absence of the frequency reference and initiate a reset procedure at that side.

  • Patent number: 6075997
Abstract: Each transmitter/receiver pair of a radio base station is connected via an antenna bus and radio frequency feeder to antenna near parts equipment such as active antennas, boosters and tower mounted amplifiers. Automatic configuration and calibration of the antenna near parts equipment is accomplished by establishing communication between the base station and each of its connected antenna near part components. Each antenna near part component sends its identification to the base station over the antenna bus at power-on. Furthermore, communications selectively sent over the radio frequency feeder are monitored to determine the connectivity between individual transmitter/receiver pairs of the base station and each antenna near parts equipment. These radio frequency feeder communications are further processed to determine calibration data for configuring each antenna near parts equipment for optimal operation.

  • Patent number: 6061704
Abstract: A method and apparatus in a radio telecommunications system for converting data from a first sample rate to a second sample rate such that the first and second sample rates are preferably within 10% of each other are disclosed. An input buffer receives a plurality of data groupings at a first sample rate. A spline filter utilizes the input data along with a phase difference between input and output data to calculate a third order spline function and an output time for the input data. This information is used to convert the input data at the first sample rate to output data at a second sample rate. The output data is buffered within an output buffer until transmitted to an associated base band unit.

  • Patent number: 5937180
Abstract: An integrated circuit which can function in a number of different operating modes is set to a setting mode by a control signal on the control signal input. The circuit includes a signal sequence generator which in the setting mode generates setting signal sequences on four of the address connections of the circuit. An operating mode is selected by coupling one of the address connections with a setting signal input on a signal sequence detector in the circuit. The signal sequence detector interprets the setting signal sequence from the signal sequence generator and sets control outputs, on the signal sequence detector to different combinations of "low" and "high" signal levels respectively in dependence on the sequence received in the detector, whereafter the circuit switches to an operating mode in which the address conductors forward signals in accordance with the operating mode.

  • Patent number: 5638372
Abstract: A base station for handling radio communication including flexible filler transmission is described. Therein, plural transmitters share a distributed responsibility to ensure that each time slot on a control channel carrier frequency is transmitted by one of the transmitters, even when no meaningful data is available for transmission. A control channel sign bus is provided which indicates if the control channel is currently scheduled to transmit on the next time slot. Idle transmitters can monitor this bus and, if necessary, provide the filler function when the control channel bus indicates that no transmission is currently scheduled for the control channel.
