Publication number: 20110147491Abstract: An internal mix air atomizing spray nozzle assembly comprising a nozzle body with a liquid discharge orifice defined by a relatively small diameter nose portion and an air cap having a central opening disposed in surrounding relation to the nose portion for defining an annular pressurized air passageway surrounding the liquid discharge orifice. To facilitate intermixing of liquid particles discharging from the air cap discharge orifices and for reducing negative pressures between the discharging flow streams, the air cap has an internal mixing chamber larger in diameter than the annular pressurized air discharge orifice and is formed with a plurality of circumferentially spaced discharge orifices oriented in skewed relation to a central axis of the nozzle. In the illustrated embodiment, the internal mixing chamber is defined by a cylindrical cavity within the air cap and a separate insert mounted in an upstream end of the air cap.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 22, 2009Publication date: June 23, 2011Applicant: Spraying System Co.Inventors: Emily Pope, Daniel Vidusek

Publication number: 20040050055Abstract: A power augmenting spray nozzle assembly for directing a fine liquid spray into an air inlet of a gas turbine. The nozzle assembly includes a nozzle body, and an orifice member supported within the body and having an upstream whirl chamber and a downstream discharge orifice for directing liquid into a predetermined conical spray pattern. The orifice member is made of a corundum, preferably a synthetic ruby or sapphire material, having surfaces of a hardness of 9 MOHS such that the discharge orifice is effective for discharging a fine liquid spray with substantially uniform, fine liquid particles.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 13, 2002Publication date: March 18, 2004Applicant: Spraying Systems, Co.Inventors: Daniel A. Vidusek, Matthew J. Roman

Patent number: 5372312Abstract: A spray nozzle assembly particularly adapted for directing a finely atomized slurry of hydrated lime for removing sulfur dioxide from flue gases. The nozzle assembly includes a nozzle body having a first pre-atomizing and mixing chamber into which pressurized liquid and air flow streams are directed for breaking down and pre-atomizing the liquid, an orifice plate at the downstream end of the first pre-atomization and mixing chamber for restricting the fluid flow into a second chamber defined by the orifice plate and spray tip, and a spray tip having a plurality of circumferentially spaced discharge orifices through which atomized liquid particles in the second chamber discharge. Each discharge orifice is inclined at a compound angle in order to cause the spray to discharge from the tip as a swirling annular curtain and thereby retard the build up of lime and fly ash on the tip.Type: GrantFiled: August 23, 1993Date of Patent: December 13, 1994Assignee: Spraying Systems Co.Inventor: Daniel A. Patent number: 5072883Abstract: A full cone spray nozzle assembly having a body with a centrally disposed, axially extending chamber through which a liquid to be discharged will flow, and a frusto-conically formed end cap having a circular, centrally located discharge opening. The end cap covers the body at the discharge end thereof, and the body has passages to direct pressurized air into a cavity formed between the discharge end of the body and the adjacent interior surface of the conical cap, thus forming an air outlet in the shape of an annular slot. The slot is arranged to direct the pressurized air inwardly towards the center of the opening in the conical cap so that the pressurized air surrounds and impinges the liquid flowing from the orifice and atomizes the liquid discharge.Type: GrantFiled: April 3, 1990Date of Patent: December 17, 1991Assignee: Spraying Systems Co.Inventor: Daniel A. Vidusek

Patent number: 5065945Abstract: An improved spray nozzle assembly particularly adapted for use in dispersing cooling fluids onto the opposed relatively narrow sides of a pair of slabs in a split or twin cast continuous steel casting system. The discharging spray nozzle assembly is fashioned with a nozzle body having a manifold which is common to a plurality of transversely mounted spray nozzle heads. Each spray nozzle head has a plurality of closely spaced, slit-like discharge openings that communicate with the manifold via a barrel-like mixing chamber and internal flow passages, Each of the discharge openings on each of said spray nozzle heads has a specifically configured shape to facilitate an even distribution of coolant throughout a substantially rectangular spray pattern.Type: GrantFiled: April 3, 1990Date of Patent: November 19, 1991Assignee: Spraying Systems Co.Inventors: Daniel A.
