  • Publication number: 20180318602
Abstract: Certain examples involve controlling a circadian impact of a lighting system. For instance, a lighting system includes a first lighting fixture. The first lighting fixture includes at least one lighting element to illuminate a first space and a first controller to control a first light output of the at least one lighting element. Additionally, the lighting system includes a first background circadian system that provides a first modifying factor to the first controller of the first lighting fixture. The first modifying factor is associated with a first circadian impact profile that specifies a first circadian impact level in the first space. Further, the first controller of the first lighting fixture controls the first light output based on the first modifying factor.

  • Publication number: 20180318601
Abstract: Certain examples involve a circadian effect light fixture. The circadian effect light fixture includes a controller to receive a modifying factor based on a circadian impact profile. The modifying factor includes an indication of an intensity value, a correlated color temperature value, and a color value over a range of time. The circadian effect light fixture also includes a first lighting element controlled by the controller to produce a first light output having a first intensity, a first correlated color temperature, and a first color value. Further, the circadian effect light fixture includes a second lighting element controlled by the controller to produce a second light output having a second intensity, a second correlated color temperature, and a second color value. A combined light output of the first lighting element and the second lighting element tracks the modifying factor over the range of time.

  • Patent number: 10111297
Abstract: A processing device can digitally control lighting fixtures by receiving a request to generate light at a correlated color temperature (“CCT”) level in an environment. The environment can include a first lighting fixture having a first range of generatable CCT values and a second lighting fixture having a second range of generatable CCT values. The processing device can determine a first CCT value based on the request and the first range. The processing device can further determine a second CCT value based on the first CCT value and the second range. The processing device can further transmit a first digital signal to the first lighting fixture to cause the first lighting fixture to generate light at the first CCT value. The processing device can further transmit a second digital signal to the second lighting fixture to cause the second lighting fixture to generate light at the second CCT value.

  • Patent number: 10091856
Abstract: A system allows a light fixture to have a wider range of color temperatures (CCT) while limiting the warmest temperature reached at full intensity. The CCT of the light output may be controlled independently of intensity across a certain range of CCT and dependent on intensity across another range. In an implementation, both intensity and CCT may be adjusted from a single handle, where the interface positions may be divided into multiple zones. In another implementation, intensity may be adjusted from a first handle, while CCT may be adjusted from a second handle. The CCT of the light output may be limited to cooler levels when the intensity is higher, and/or the intensity of the light may be limited to lower levels when the CCT is warmer.

  • Publication number: 20180194089
Abstract: Silicone-containing light fixture optics. A method for manufacturing an optical component may include mixing two precursors of silicone, opening a first gate of an optic forming device, moving the silicone mixture from the extrusion machine into the optic forming device, cooling the silicone mixture as it enters the optic forming device, filling a mold within the optic forming device with the silicone mixture, closing the first gate, and heating the silicone mixture in the mold to at least partially cure the silicone. Alternatively, a method for manufacturing an optical component may include depositing a layer of heat cured silicone optical material to an optical structure, arranging one or more at least partially cured silicone optics on the layer of heat cured silicone optical material, and heating the heat cured silicone optical material to permanently adhere the one or more at least partially cured silicone optics to the optical structure.

  • Patent number: 9603213
Abstract: The described invention provides a method of and circuitry for driving three or more groups of light emitting diodes (LEDs) using time division multiplexing, whereby a periodic signal is divided among groups of LEDs, each with a different color or color temperature. The LEDs may be driven to produce colors along a desired path of values. Other qualities of light besides color or color temperature may be similarly controlled along a path of values. In some implementations, the system may receive an oscillating signal, which may be used as a periodic signal for comparison with the control signal, and one or more offset voltages, each of which may be combined with the oscillating signal to provide a second oscillating signal. The control signal may be compared to both of the oscillating signals to determine if a particular LED group may be powered.

  • Patent number: 9587802
Abstract: An LED assembly that includes optics and optical arrangements for light emitting diodes (LEDs). In some embodiments, a reflector is provided within a void between the lens and the LED. This reflector can reflect light emitted by the LED in a non-preferred direction back toward the preferred direction. In other embodiments, an optical element is formed or otherwise provided in the lens cavity and shaped so that, when the lens is positioned above the LED, the refractor bends the emitted light in a preferred direction. In some embodiments, both a reflector and optical element are provided in the LED assembly to control the directionality of the emitted light. Such embodiments of the invention can be used to increase the efficiency of an LED by ensuring that generated light is being directed to the target area of choice.

  • Publication number: 20170034891
Abstract: A luminaire may include a plurality of different light engines. Light engines having different light distributions can be included in a single luminaire and a subset of the light engines selectively driven to dynamically change the light distribution of the luminaire. In this way, a single luminaire is capable of illuminating an area with a variety of different light distributions.

  • Publication number: 20170002998
Abstract: Optics over a light source, such as, but not limited to, an LED on a circuit board. The optic does not entirely encapsulate the LED but rather includes an inner surface such that an air gap exists between the optic and the LED. The optic may include a lens and may conform to the shape of the circuit board.
