The printing system may include a print head, a web impregnated with a liquid configured to form a protective coating on the print head when the print head contacts the web, and a roller configured to place the web adjacent the print head, wherein the print head is configured to move among a plurality of positions including a proximal position in which the print head contacts the web, and a distal position in which the print head is spaced from the web.
