  • Patent number: 5788343
Abstract: A brake valve assembly suitable for use in a railway air brake system to control flow of air between the on-board reservoir and a respective brake cylinder. The valve assembly may include a plurality of internal valves to permit three states of fluid transfer, i.e., delivery, exhaust and lap. The internal valves are controlled by respective solenoids that act directly on the valve element. Internal forces due to fluid pressure are balanced using counterbalance assemblies preferably including a flexible, rolling diaphragm disposed adjacent to a configured follower member. The counterbalance assemblies maintain substantial balance throughout the reciprocative stroke of the valve element.

  • Patent number: 5704396
Abstract: A self wear compensating valve for controlling flow of a fluid employs seals for sealing between relatively moving parts. In one of the parts, an annular recess is formed. A conformable sealing member is placed in the recess, and a spring biased to expel the conformable sealing member and press it against a sealing surface on the other part is provided. An O-ring placed on the outside of the conformable sealing member prevents leakage of fluid through the recess outside of the conformable sealing member. As the conformable sealing member is worn away, after many cycles of the valve, the spring continues to press it against the sealing surface, while the O-ring continues to prevent leakage of fluid outside the conformable sealing member. A rotary valve suitable for railroad brake applications is provided, which controls flow of fluid from a supply to the brake cylinder, and provides for exhaust of fluid from the brake cylinder. The valve has a supply port, a delivery port and an exhaust.

  • Patent number: 5460100
Abstract: A service bypass apparatus for isolating a door from an automatic door operator on a passenger transit type railway vehicle, and lock such door in a closed position, which includes a partially rotatable shaft having a blocking lever arm rigidly secured to the rotatable shaft which can be pivoted into a position sufficient to block the door from opening. The shaft is also provided with at least one cam adapted to operate at least one switch which will electrically and pneumatically isolate the door from the automatic door operator, and activate whatever bypasses are necessary to permit other door operators to function in their normal manner. A remote control apparatus is also provided which includes a partially rotatable cylinder with a closed-loop cable interconnecting the rotatable cylinder and the shaft, so that any partial rotation of the cylinder will cause a partial rotation of the shaft as necessary to isolate the door from the automatic door operator.

  • Patent number: 5456504
Abstract: An apparatus for mechanically locking and unlocking a passenger access door panel on a railway vehicle which includes a locking lever arm, one end of which is pivotally secured to a movable door panel and having a roller secured at the opposite end, and having a biasing means to pivotally bias the roller against a locking support structure secured to a structure adjacent to the movable door panel when such door panel is moving into the closed position.
