  • Publication number: 20240162952
Abstract: A communication device, method, and computer program product optimize cyclic delay diversity (CDD) or linear delay diversity (LDD) for effective transmit diversity that increases transmit power by first and second transmit chains of the communication device. A controller of the communication device sequentially configures the first transmit chain to transmit an uplink signal and the second transmit chain to transmit the uplink signal with a different phase shift or time delay value. While sequentially transmitting, the controller monitors a measure of uplink signal quality at a network node for each sequentially changed phase shift or time delay values. The controller determines and uses an optimum value for the phase shift or time delay value that results in an optimum uplink signal quality over the evaluated sequence of different phase shift or time delay values.

  • Publication number: 20240163822
Abstract: A communication device, method, and computer program product optimize cyclic or linear delay diversity for effective transmit diversity that increases transmit power by first and second transmit chains of the communication device while configured for uplink full power transmission mode 1. Using a precoding matrix codebook for multiple-input multiple-output transmission, a controller of the communication device sequentially configures the first transmit chain to transmit an uplink signal and the second transmit chain to transmit the uplink signal with a different phase shift or time delay value.

  • Publication number: 20240146367
Abstract: A communication device, method, and computer program product reduce power consumption when one or more transmit chains can be inactivated without unsatisfactory uplink communication quality in single data layer transmit diversity (TxDiv) or multiple input multiple output (MIMO) mode. The communication device monitors uplink signal quality of the uplink data stream while connected in single layer mode to a base node using multiple transmit chains. The controller device deactivates transmit chain(s) while the uplink signal quality remains satisfactory. The controller re-activates the inactivated transmit chain(s) in response to the uplink signal quality becoming unsatisfactory.

  • Publication number: 20230412727
Abstract: A voice call is established between two or more computing devices. The voice call may be, for example, audio only or audio and video. One computing device, referred to as a near-end device, receives a digital representation of background noise captured at another computing device, referred to as a far-end device. The near-end device captures voice audio from the user of the near-end device and adjusts the voice audio based at least in part on the digital representation of the background noise at the far-end device. The near-end device then transmits the adjusted voice audio to the far-end device for playback at the far-end device.

  • Patent number: 11838806
Abstract: Techniques for multiple call types for a call event are described and may be implemented via a wireless device to enable multiple connections for wireless calls. For instance, redundant connections for a call event of a wireless device are established via different call types and utilized to exchange call media of the call event. In at least some implementations, call media from the different call types is combined to provide a combined media stream for output as part of the call event. Thus, techniques for multiple call types for a call event are applicable to increase call quality in different scenarios and environments, such as in situations where a primary call connection experiences an anomaly condition that causes quality call degradation.

  • Publication number: 20230239744
Abstract: A communication device, method and computer program product reduce time to connect a communication session. The communication device registers for cellular communication service using a first radio access technology (RAT) or sub-RAT with a first node. The communication device determines whether a connection for a selected communication service is predicted to be available from the first node. The communication device determines whether a request for the selected communication service is predicted to occur. In response to determining that the connection for the selected communication service is unavailable from the first node and the request for the selected communication service is predicted to occur, the communication device identifies a second node that supports communication using a second RAT/sub-RAT. The communication devices triggers registration fallback from the first node to the second node.

  • Publication number: 20230239019
Abstract: A communication device, computer program product, and method proactively implement a successful transmit antenna configuration to address antenna outages for multiple transmit carrier scenarios. A carrier of the communication device determines a first transmit carrier, of at least two transmit carriers of a multiple transmit carrier mode, that is identified as having priority among the at least two transmit carriers. The controller identifies one or more transmit antenna configurations in the transmit antenna configuration data that support the first transmit carrier. The carrier determining, for each transmit antenna configuration, an aggregate antenna outage metric that indicates the transmit performance for a corresponding transmit antenna configuration. The controller configures an antenna switching network and RF frontend of a communication subsystem of the communication device with a first transmit antenna configuration that has a better aggregate antenna outage metric than other antenna configurations.

  • Patent number: 11637921
Abstract: A computing device supports both audible notifications and vibration notifications that are used to notify a user of various different events, such as an incoming voice call or text message. The computing device predicts when a user will have difficulty hearing an audible notification from the computing device due to environmental noise. In response to predicting that a user will have difficulty hearing an audible notification from the computing device due to environmental noise, the computing device enables vibration notifications (if not already enabled) on the computing device. The computing device also optionally communicates with one or more additional devices (e.g., a smartwatch or other wearable device) connected to the computing device to cause those additional devices to also enable vibration notifications. In response to subsequent events for which the user is to be notified, the computing device (and optionally additional devices connected thereto) provides a vibration notification.
