  • Patent number: 4164951
Abstract: A hair roller, as disclosed herein, comprises a system of components for drying or curling a hank of hair. The roller comprises a desiccating material and a heat source in an arrangement for regulating heat flow to the hair and for controlling water vapor. Preferably, a tubular body of granular desiccant is employed with a heat storage core within the body. A cover over the body of desiccant provides a desirable outer surface and exhibits properties conducive to efficient water vapor transport and heat transfer. Additionally, a curler cap is provided with properties of thermal insulation and water vapor permeability for enhancing the performance of the roller in curling and drying of the hair.

  • Patent number: 4061807
Abstract: In accordance with the invention there is provided a porous adsorbent body comprising an array of granules of adsorbent material and particles of thermoplastic organic polymer bonded to the granules with at least some of the particles bridging contiguous granules thereby bonding them together to form a self-sustaining body having interstices which open into each other for admission of fluid to the surface of the granules in the interior of the body. Further in accordance with the invention such adsorbent body is made by forming a uniform mixture of the granules of adsorbent material and the particles of thermoplastic organic polymer and then heating the mixture to a temperature above the softening temperature but below the melting temperature of the thermoplastic polymer thereby to bond the granules together.

  • Patent number: 4041961
Abstract: A hair treating device is disclosed in the form of a roller or curler and provided with a unitary, porous body of desiccant for adsorbing or desorbing water. The desiccant body is a sintered composite of granules of desiccant, such as silica gel, and a binder comprising particles of a high temperature organic polymeric material, such as nylon. The roller is provided with a heat storage core and with a suitable cover. It is effective to accelerate hair drying and to produce longer lasting curls with improved softness and finish.
