Abstract: A cover for the probe of an infrared thermometer including a sheath having a distal opening and a transparent infrared radiation window defined by a separate film insert which is secured to the interior surface thereof and covers the distal opening. The film insert comprises a strip of film material in one embodiment and a campanulate insert in a second embodiment.

Abstract: A cost-effective electronic thermometer comprises a rigid case attached to a flexible probe stem in a lap joint. The distal end portion of the relatively rigid case is affixed to the flexible probe stem at the lap joint by a molding weld between the case and the flexible probe. A substantially rigid insert is positioned partially within an axially extending passageway defined by the stem such that a sensor cap can be mounted around the insert. A temperature sensor in sensor cap is connected to an electronic processor with display that is positioned within case and powered by a battery.

Abstract: An electronic thermometer features a high intensity, dual media fever alarm. The thermometer includes a temperature detection module for generating a digital temperature signal and a fever signal. Elements responsive to the temperature and fever signal are provided to display a temperature readout and provide a fever alarm that is both audible by use of a buzzer and visible at the thermometer display. For providing these functions, the thermometer also includes a sound oscillator for generating a buzzer alarm signal, a flash oscillator for generating a display flash signal, an alarm controller responsive to the fever signal for alarm activation, a display module for displaying the a fever indication, a buzzer signal optimizer for enhancing buzzer intensity and an associated buzzer for generating the audible portion of the fever alarm.
