Patent number: 11960501Abstract: User profiles of remote desktops are managed in a crash-consistent manner. When a user logs into a remote desktop, metadata of the user profile is loaded from persistent storage while registry settings and files of the user profile are loaded asynchronously with respect to the login. During the remote desktop session, snapshots of the remote desktop image in persistent storage are generated periodically, and a change log that indicates changes to the user profile is created therefrom. The user profile stored in persistent storage is updated lazily using the change log at opportunistic times after snapshot generation. When the user logs out of the remote desktop, the user profile stored in the persistent storage is updated with any additional changes to the user profile by extracting the changes from the copy-on-write cache associated with the most recent snapshot.Type: GrantFiled: December 21, 2016Date of Patent: April 16, 2024Assignee: VMware, Inc.Inventors: Scott Howard Davis, Daniel James Beveridge, Jonathan Clark, Blake Watts

Publication number: 20240118981Abstract: Techniques are provided for failing over an aggregate from one file system instance to a different file system instance of a distributed scale-out storage system. The aggregate may be stored within distributed storage that is accessible to a plurality of file system instances of the distributed scale-out storage system. When the aggregate is failed over from a first file system instance to a second file system instance, the first file system instance may still have a valid read lease that allows the first file system instance to serve client I/O, directed to the aggregate, using a cache. In order to prevent the first file system instance from serving stale data from the cache before the read lease expires, state machines and a set of control data are used to ensure that the second file system instance attaches to the aggregate only after the read lease has expired.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 27, 2022Publication date: April 11, 2024Inventors: Yash Hetal Trivedi, Daniel McCarthy, Ananthan Subramanian, William Arthur Gutknecht, Kevin Daniel Varghese, Swaroop Vikram Choudhari, Abdul Basit, Christopher Clark Corey, Chad Edmund Schneider

Patent number: 11934535Abstract: A cyberthreat detection system queries a content database for unstructured content that contains a set of keywords, clusters the unstructured content into clusters based on topics, and determines a cybersecurity cluster utilizing a list of vetted cybersecurity phrases. The set of keywords represents a target of interest such as a newly discovered cyberthreat, an entity, a brand, or a combination thereof. The cybersecurity cluster thus determined is composed of unstructured content that has the set of keywords as well as some percentage of the vetted cybersecurity phrases. If the size of the cybersecurity cluster, as compared to the amount of unstructured content queried from the content database, meets or exceeds a predetermined threshold, the query is saved as a new classifier rule that can then be used by a cybersecurity classifier to automatically, dynamically and timely identify the target of interest in unclassified unstructured content.Type: GrantFiled: February 15, 2023Date of Patent: March 19, 2024Assignee: Proofpoint, Inc.Inventor: Daniel Clark Salo

Patent number: 11927091Abstract: A drill bit has a plurality of cutters secured to the bit body, including a gauge cutter defining a gauge diameter of the drill bit. A reciprocating gauge assembly on the bit comprises a cavity defined in the bit body, a piston reciprocably disposed in the cavity, a wear element on an outwardly facing end of the piston, a piston retainer for moveably retaining the piston in the cavity, and a spring biasing the piston outwardly to a neutral position of the wear element with respect to the gauge diameter. The wear element and piston may be urged inwardly in response to an applied load at the drill bit gauge pad, increasing the lateral depth of cut and thereby controlling the aggressiveness of the bit in response to the load.Type: GrantFiled: December 30, 2020Date of Patent: March 12, 2024Assignee: Halliburton Energy Services, Inc.Inventors: Van Jordan Brackin, Trung Huynh, Kelley Leigh Plunkett, Kevin Clark, Andrew David Lake, Darien Louis Gurka, Jr., Daniel Brendan Voglewede, Curtis Clifford Lanning, William Brian Atkins

Patent number: 11852185Abstract: A joint assembly joins first and second components about a common axis. The first component has a first end portion having a radially outwardly facing surface shaped to fit radially inside a second surface of a hollow second end portion of the second component to form an interface between the opposing first and second surfaces. The first and second surfaces have a concavity extending laterally with respect to the axis such that when the first and second surfaces are opposingly arranged the opposing concavities define a cavity at the interface. A retaining member is insertable into the cavity at the interface to prevent axial separation of the first and second components. One of the first and second end portions has a free end protrusion axially spaced from the concavity and the other of the first and second end portions has an axially extending recess arranged to receive the free end.Type: GrantFiled: October 7, 2020Date of Patent: December 26, 2023Assignee: ROLLS-ROYCE plcInventors: David R Coles, Daniel Clark
