Patent number: 10545094Abstract: A system and method for the detection of one or more analytes in a collected sample employs capillary action in a sample card containing a sample substrate, at least one test capsule and an absorbent pad. The absorbent pad absorbs the contents of the test capsule and delivers the same to the sample substrate, with the contents of the test capsule chemically reacting with at least one detection reagent to establish an optical indicator for the analyte(s). The sample card can be automatically tested within a reader device, which records and processes an optical signal produced by the chemical reaction and outputs a test result. The collected sample can then be further analyzed using a second device. Additionally, an adhesive component can be provided so that a sample can be collected thereon. Furthermore, the at least one detection reagent can include a surfactant.Type: GrantFiled: November 3, 2017Date of Patent: January 28, 2020Assignee: RedXDefense, LLC.Inventors: Arman Ghodousi, Sarah Josepha Toal, Gregory Scott Ericksen, Daniel Douglas Montgomery, Thomas Emory McVeigh, Jacek Kotowicz, Sean Conte

Patent number: 9435744Abstract: An analyte detection system and method for the detection of one or more analytes in a sample, the analytes selected from the group consisting of explosives, narcotics, gunshot residue, organophosphate reagents, and toxic industrial chemicals, based on a capillary action in a sample card. The sample card includes a housing with at least one cavity made of flexible material, a sample substrate for collecting the sample with a portion of the substrate exposed from outside the housing, at least one test capsule in the cavity and an absorbent pad. The test capsule(s), the sample substrate, and the absorbent pad comprise at least one or more reagents. The test capsule(s) is ruptured with a rupture mechanism upon inserting the sample card into a reader device. The absorbent pad absorbs a liquid from the test capsule and delivers the same to the sample substrate.Type: GrantFiled: April 3, 2013Date of Patent: September 6, 2016Assignee: RedXDefense, LLCInventors: Arman Ghodousi, Sarah Josepha Toal, Gregory Scott Ericksen, Daniel Douglas Montgomery, Thomas Emory McVeigh, Jacek Kotowicz

Publication number: 20150079693Abstract: A product and method for the detection of one or more analytes in a collected sample employs capillary action in a sample card containing a sample substrate, at least one test capsule and an absorbent pad. The absorbent pad absorbs the contents of the test capsule and delivers the same to the sample substrate, with the contents of the test capsule chemically reacting with at least one detection reagent to establish an optical indicator for the analyte(s). The sample card can be automatically tested within a reader device which supplies one or more light sources, records and processes an optical signal produced by the chemical reaction, and outputs a test result.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 3, 2013Publication date: March 19, 2015Applicant: REDXDEFENSE, LLCInventors: Arman Ghodousi, Sarah Josepha Toal, Gregory Scott Ericksen, Daniel Douglas Montgomery, Thomas Emory McVeigh, Jacek Kotowicz

Patent number: 6441753Abstract: An improved multi-function key assembly (12) is provided. The multi-function key assembly includes a printed circuit board substrate (28) having a popple dome switch array (26) mounted thereto. Attached to the substrate is a button member (22) adapted for use as a data input device for an electronic device. The button member has a central area or region (48) and a contoured peripheral surface (30) serving as a plurality of perimeter key regions (32-46). The contour of the peripheral surface provides a user with tactile feedback in determining the location of the various key regions. The button member additionally includes a plurality of plungers (54-68, 72) extending from its bottom surface (70). Each plunger corresponds to a specific key region and is capable of actuating a popple dome switch (154, 156) for that specific key region. The assembly may include a base (76) having a plurality of legs (90).Type: GrantFiled: October 25, 2000Date of Patent: August 27, 2002Assignee: Motorola, Inc.Inventor: Daniel Douglas Montgomery

Patent number: 6094785Abstract: The present invention relates to a snap arrangement comprising snap hooks (208) associated with a first housing (200) that snap over corresponding protrusions (111) in a second housing (100). The snap hooks preferably include an inclined portion (212) such that a finger (504) of a certain width of a removal tool (502) will force them apart to the deflection required for disassembly. Once the tool has been inserted beyond the elbow (213), the snap hook is not deflected any further regardless of the motion of the tool. This enables the tool to continue moving the front housing apart from the rear housing without further deflecting the snap hooks. This ensures that the snap hooks are never overstressed, that the front housing comes completely off of the rear housing every time, and that repeated disassembly will only minimally affect the strength of the snaps.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 1997Date of Patent: August 1, 2000Assignee: Motorola, Inc.Inventors: Daniel Douglas Montgomery, Leonardo Diego Moral
