  • Patent number: 5336377
Abstract: 2-Chloro-1,1-difluoroethylene (R-1122) is removed from 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane (R-134a) by contacting the R-134a in the vapor phase with chlorine in the presence of ultraviolet light providing an exposure of at least about 2 watts-hour/kg.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 18, 1991
Date of Patent: August 9, 1994
    Assignee: Allied-Signal Inc.
Inventors: Stephen F. Yates, Daniel F. Harnish, Addison M. Smith
  • Patent number: 5061577
Abstract: A class of fluorinated polyols which when added to formulated dispersions used to make a magnetic particle based coating not only improves the dispersion of the particles in the formulation during manufacture but also improves the wear characteristics of the cured coating during use. The fluorinated polyol may be prepared either by the reaction of a diglycidyl ether with a diol or by the reaction of two diols with epichlorohydrin.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 28, 1988
Date of Patent: October 29, 1991
    Assignee: Allied-Signal Inc.
Inventors: Daniel F. Harnish, Donald Pickens, Richard J. Brautigam
  • Patent number: 5004790
Abstract: A novel class of fluorinated surfactant monomers which when blended and cured with conventional non-fluorinated monomers produces resins with dramatically modified surfaces. Resins which may be thus modified include urethanes, epoxides, acrylates, polyesters and other thermosetting materials.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 15, 1989
Date of Patent: April 2, 1991
    Assignee: Allied-Signal Inc.
Inventors: Daniel F. Harnish, Donald Pickens, Andrew M. Zweig
  • Patent number: 4228246
Abstract: Improved polyolefin foams, particularly polystyrene foams, and improved extrusion processability thereof are obtained by employing as blowing agent a mixture of from about 3 to about 70 weight percent monochloromonofluoromethane and from about 97 to about 30 weight percent of dichlorodifluoromethane.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 26, 1975
Date of Patent: October 14, 1980
    Assignee: Allied Chemical Corporation
Inventors: Bernard Taub, Daniel F. Harnish, Philip E. Jones
