  • Patent number: 9709431
Abstract: In some implementations, a system obtains activity data for a sump pump associated with a property where the obtained activity data indicates a present operational status of the sump pump. The system obtains water level data associated with the property where the water level data indicates a level of water within the property, determines that the activity data indicates that the sump pump is operating and that the water level within the property satisfies a water level risk threshold, and, in response to the determination that the activity data indicates that the sump pump is operating and that the water level within the property satisfies a water level risk threshold, provides a notification that the property is at risk of suffering water damage.

  • Patent number: 9696055
Abstract: Controller technology, in which data specifying a user preference relating to an environmental parameter for a property is received. Based on data collected by a monitoring system, a location of one or more users within the property is identified. Environmental condition data for the property is accessed, the environmental condition data including environmental condition data for the location of the users within the property and other unoccupied locations within the property. The environmental condition data for the property is analyzed with respect to the preference relating to the environmental parameter for the property. Based on the analysis of the environmental condition data for the property with respect to the preference relating to the environmental parameter for the property, a setting for at least one component of an HVAC system is determined. The at least one component of the HVAC system is controlled according to the determined setting.

  • Patent number: 9430098
Abstract: Devices, using emitted acoustic signals and received vibrations, determine resonant frequencies of a surface or other object, and determine useful information about that surface, including size, thickness, and material. Received vibrations include impulse vibrations from striking that surface with a finger or stylus, or from a frequency or from a swept-sinusoid emitted by the device. The device can adjust its frequency output to use the surface as an amplifier for alarms or speakers, or a center frequency for sonic output. Using an accelerometer, devices sense impulse vibrations, translating those impulses into information, such as keystrokes, game controls, mice, or musical instrument controls. Devices can emulate keyboards and input devices using tabletops. Devices can coordinate signals through multiple media, including air, surface, or EMF channels.

Abstract: A rotary chuck adapted to hold a substrate. The rotary chuck has a rotatable chuck portion and an edge grip having a movable grip member movably mounted to the rotatable chuck portion, the moveable grip member being substantially free moving so that rotation of the rotating chuck portion causes the moveable grip member to move in a plane substantially aligned with a surface of the substrate to engage the substrate in a engaged position. A resilient element is coupled to the moveable grip member, the resilient member biasing the grip member to a disengaged position.

  • Patent number: 9385978
Abstract: Message processing is disclosed that includes detecting an action by a sending user selecting at least one portion of a message. An indication of the selected portion of the message is stored in the message, and the message transmitted to at least one message recipient. Contextually related content from the message for the selected portion may also be indicated in the message. The selected portion or portions of the message may be displayed to a recipient user, and selection by the recipient user of a portion of the message selected by said sending user may be detected. Contextually related content may be retrieved from the message in response detecting the recipient user's selection of the portion of the message selected by said sending user, and the contextually related content displayed to the recipient together with the portion of the message selected by said sending user.

  • Publication number: 20150287140
Abstract: Computer-based systems and methods have been developed wherein at least one embodiment is capable of automatically determining the optimal collateral holdings in compliance with Credit Support Annex (CSA) agreements, and dynamically reallocating the collateral holdings as time progresses, in order to maintain the optimality of the portfolio of holdings through Customer Service Representatives' (CSR) operations. The optimal allocation may be defined as one that minimizes the operational cost of satisfying CSA agreements via collateral postings. Data may be stored concerning attributes of the components of the holdings of the counterparties, available inventory of assets (securities and cash), current market factors (e.g., interest rates, LIBOR), which are constantly updated. A discrete optimization routine may be used to generate feasible global optimal solutions to allocate and/or reallocate the collateral postings satisfying the operational constraints.

  • Patent number: 9093835
Abstract: The described embodiments relate generally to portable computing devices such as notebook computers and more particularly to failsafe mechanisms designed to prevent electrical shorts in the event that a portable computing device comes in contact with a liquid. A plurality of liquid sensors can be positioned within a computing device and electrically coupled to a controller. The controller can respond to varying amounts of liquid by immediately decoupling the system electronics from the power supply, performing a controlled shut-down of the computing device, or taking no action. In some embodiments, the controller can also limit the ability of a user to reactivate the computing device following a spill until any remaining liquids are removed from the computing device.

  • Patent number: 8671342
Abstract: An embodiment of the invention provides a method for displaying a message from a first user to a second user, wherein the message from the first user is received in a system of the second user. The message includes text in an intended font and metadata, wherein the metadata includes a link to a font source. It is determined whether the intended font is on the system of the second user; and, if the intended font is not on the system of the second user, rendering instructions are obtained from the font source. The rendering instructions include instructions on how to display the text in the intended font on the system of the second user without downloading the intended font to the system of the second user. The text is displayed in the intended font on the system of the second user using the rendering instructions.
