A decorative strip (56) is oriented obliquely between the front of the top plate and the bottom of the base, with the lower edge (48) of the strip and the bottom (54) of the base forming a lower channel (50). The top element (22) of the surround (16) and the nailing flange (28) of the window box project above the top edge (24) of the window box, forming a box channel (26). The upward projection (22) of the top element is received within the lower channel (50) of the mantle unit, and a downward projecting portion (54) of the mantle base is received within the box channel (26).

Abstract: A prefabricated corner post (10) and associated method for attachment to an external corner (106) on a building (100). An angled body (12) has adjacent panels (14, 16) that form an inner corner (18) having inner flat surfaces (20, 22) adapted to closely engage the building corner (106), and an outer corner (24) forming an outer flat surface (26) that extends to side edges (28, 30). A nailing flange (32, 34) extends from the inner flat surface of each panel beyond a respective side edge of the outer surface. A trim piece (36) closely conforms to and is slidable vertically along the outer surface between an installation position (38) and a final position (40). Each panel of the body has a through hole (42) from the outer to the inner surface at the final position of the trim piece.

Abstract: A window frame surrounds a window box in a wall having horizontally extending siding elements that are connected along overlapping horizontal seams and unconnected edges that are juxtaposed with the window box. The window box has top, bottom, and opposed side elements connected together to define a rectangle, wherein the top element has a transverse outer edge. The window frame has top, bottom, and opposed side frame elements connected together to define a rectangular frame, each element having front and back faces and inner and outer edges whereby the back faces of the window frame elements cover the unconnected edges of the siding and the inner edges of the frame elements closely surround the elements of the window box. A rigid strip is attached to the inner edge of the top element of the window frame and projects over and is vertically supported by the outer edge of the top element of the window box.

Abstract: A window frame comprising top, bottom, and opposed side frame elements connected together to define a rectangular frame, each element having front and back faces and inner and outer edges whereby the outer edges define the frame perimeter. An inner channel extends along the outer edges of at least the side elements, closer to the back face than to the front face. The frame optionally has another channel extending along the outer edges of at least the side elements, closer to the front face than to the back face. Mounting strips are located in the inner channels, having outer edges outside the perimeter of the frame, forming a flange for mounting the frame to a wall surrounding the window to be framed.

Abstract: A mantel for attachment to a wall, comprising a substantially flat elongated base having a back face to confront the wall and an opposite front face. The elongated channel is recessed in the base whereby the front side of the ornamental feature projects from the base. The ornamental feature has a back side insertable in the elongated channel. The channel has a bottom through which attachment hardware can be driven to attach the frame element to the wall before the ornamental feature is inserted in the channel.
