  • Publication number: 20190196779
Abstract: An embodiment sets forth a technique for interfacing with multiple intelligent personal assistants. The technique includes receiving user input comprising a trigger phrase and a command. The technique also includes identifying, via a processor and from a plurality of personal assistant services, a personal assistant service that corresponds to the trigger phrase. The processor is configured to communicate with each personal assistant service included in the plurality of personal assistant services. The technique further includes transmitting a request associated with the command to the personal assistant service, receiving a response to the request from the personal assistant service, and performing one or more operations based on the response.

  • Patent number: 9621207
Abstract: A communication device performs a method for detecting presence of a jamming signal. The method includes retrieving a scan list comprising multiple radio channels within a first frequency range of operation of the communication device. The method further includes scanning at least a subset of the channels on the scan list to determine, for each scanned channel, whether energy that exceeds an energy threshold is detected on the scanned channel. Moreover, the method includes determining a first quantitative measure based on a first plurality scanned channels having energy that exceeds the energy threshold, and comparing the first quantitative measure to at least a first jamming signal detection threshold. Additionally, the method includes indicating, on the communication device, presence of a jamming signal when the first quantitative measure satisfies the at least a first jamming signal detection threshold.

  • Patent number: 9572195
Abstract: A method and apparatus for choosing members of a local-area network and choosing a network coordinator among the members is provided herein. During operation a mobile node will determine presence information for nodes within its local area. These nodes will be solicited by the node to be part of a local-area network. Of all nodes that accept the request to form a local area network, a network coordinator for the local-area network will be chosen by determining which node's data budget allows for the cheapest transfer of data. The node with the best data budget is then chosen to be a network coordinator.

  • Patent number: 9380635
Abstract: A method and system that mitigates data session degradation over a radio link connection with an end server by allocating resources at a wireless communication device based on real-time radio frequency (RF) channel conditions. A performance tracking and resource allocation (PTRA) logic monitors radio access bearer (RAB) configuration and radio link quality for communication links between the WCD and the end server. The PTRA logic sets a maximum transmission unit (MTU) size parameter to a pre-established size associated with the measured radio link quality. In response to detecting a change in the RAB configuration, the PTRA logic performs a real-time round trip time (RTT) measurement utilizing individual RTTs associated with packet segments transmitted at a lower protocol layer. In addition, the PTRA logic modifies at least one of a transmission control protocol (TCP) receive window (RWIN) and a TCP transmit window (TWIN) using the real-time RTT measurements and RAB configuration.

  • Patent number: 9048524
Abstract: Various embodiments of methods and apparatus' for compensating for a phase shift on a communication device are described herein. In an embodiment, an antenna of a communication device is tuned based on a characteristic of the communication device, thereby causing a phase shift of a signal that is to be transmitted via the antenna. A property of the signal at the antenna after the phase shift is measured. The phase shift is compensated for based on the measured property.

  • Publication number: 20150148049
Abstract: A method on a network entity of a wireless network is described. The network entity communicates with a first user equipment (UE). The network entity allocates radio resources for use by the first UE. The network entity receives, from a monitor UE, information regarding usage of radio resources by a second UE that is engaged in device to device communication. The network entity is not in a communication from the second UE. Based on the received information, the network entity determines whether the radio resources allocated for use by the first UE should be changed. Based on the determining step, the network entity changes the radio resources allocated for use by the first UE from a first set of radio resources to a second set of radio resources, the second set being different from the first set by at least one member.

  • Patent number: 8874105
Abstract: A method and apparatus for obtaining overhead information by a mobile is provided herein. During operation, the mobile will be communicating with a first system on an active data channel. The mobile node will be able to measure pilot PN phase and amplitude for a second system that is a potential candidate to handoff and will have that information available. The data channel of the active service is used to query a proxy server that provides overhead information for the second base station. More particularly, when PN phase and amplitude information is provided to the proxy server, the proxy server will identify the base station and provide the overhead information needed to associate with the second base station.

  • Patent number: 8589968
Abstract: Disclosed is a display system and a method of a display system including a display device configured to provide visual output in a direction, and a camera associated with the display, the camera image collector being pointed in the direction of the visual output, the camera configured to collect facial data. A processor is provided to correlate facial data with content data so that the display will display specific content while the camera collects the facial data. A user's mobile communication device can detect the display system and transmit facial data to the display system. When a user is positioned so that the camera of the system can collect facial data of the user's face, the system can push specific content based upon facial recognition of the user correlated with the user's preferences or other criteria. A determination as to content to display is based upon facial recognition.

  • Patent number: 8204957
Abstract: A method of operating a communication device to facilitate a user to control multiple concurrent communication sessions. In operation, the communication device receives a plurality of incoming communications from a plurality of recipients, in which each recipient corresponds to at least one of the multiple concurrent communication sessions. The communication device further detects a user response from a user interface of the communication device in response to receiving the incoming communications. Next, the communication device correlates the user response with at least one of the received incoming communications or previously received communications corresponding to the recipients. Further, the communication device selects at least one of the plurality of recipients based on the correlation and sends the user response to the selected at least one of the plurality of recipients.

  • Patent number: 8116767
Abstract: A method and system for retry of a packet data call. The method can include the steps of attempting (210) an IP registration with a mobile unit (110) to make a packet data call using a first protocol on a network (120) that employs both the first protocol and a second protocol for packet data calls and detecting (212) a failure in the IP registration using the first protocol due to a failure in a data link layer of the first protocol. A physical layer of the first protocol is unaffected by the failure in the data link layer of the first protocol such that communications may still be performed over the physical layer. The method can also include the steps of—at the mobile unit—ceasing (214) the attempted IP registration using the first protocol on the network and attempting (216) an IP registration with the mobile unit using the second protocol of the network. As an example, the first protocol can be EVDO, and the second protocol can be 1X.
