Fluid flow diverters and diversion methods and water purification equipment including such diverters
Patent number: 6680026Abstract: “Plug-in” fluid flow diverters are disclosed. Additionally disclosed is water purification equipment adapted to communicate with the diverters. Such equipment is especially (although not solely) useful in connection with circulating streams of water present in systems associated with swimming pools, hot tubs, and spas, as the circulating nature of the water permits more of its volume ultimately to be diverted into the equipment for purification. The diverters, furthermore, may have entrances oriented to receive fluid travelling in only one direction through a conduit and be keyed to one or more components of the equipment for purposes of identification, inventory control, or otherwise.Type: GrantFiled: May 5, 1999Date of Patent: January 20, 2004Assignee: Zodiac Pool Care, Inc.Inventors: Raymond P. Patent number: 6241174Abstract: A belt shortening device intended for use with a vehicle seat belt securing a baby seat is constructed and arranged so that it can be easily mounted to the existing seat belt without detaching the belt from its existing connection. The belt shortening device includes a tubular housing, a spindle rotatably received within the housing, and a ratchet mechanism operable for controlling rotation of the spindle. The housing has an open end and a closed end and includes a pair of longitudinal slits extending inwardly from the open end. The slits are symmetrically arranged in opposed relation so as to define a transverse slot in the housing for receiving the belt therein. A ratchet pawl is mounted in the side wall of the housing adjacent the open end thereof. The spindle has a body portion and two spaced arms extending perpendicularly outwardly from the body portion. The spaced arms define a longitudinal slot for transversely receiving the belt therein.Type: GrantFiled: November 10, 1999Date of Patent: June 5, 2001Inventors: Daniel J. Nelsen, Aidan Petrie

Patent number: 6230370Abstract: A belt shortening device with a side access slot for receiving a belt is provided. The device includes a frame and a spindle rotatably mounted thereto. The spindle includes a mount end in communication with the frame and a free end opposite to the mount end. The spindle has a slot extending from the free end toward the mount end a length defining a first finger and a second finger. Optionally, a first and second plates are, respectively affixed to the first and second fingers proximal to the free ends thereof. The plates are positioned substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the spindle and, respectively emanate away from the slot. The plates are positioned from said mount end a distance greater than the width of a belt to be shortened. The plates prevent accidental lateral ejection of the belt out of the slot. A ratchet mechanism is provided to control the rotation of the spindle and winding of a belt therearound.Type: GrantFiled: August 10, 1999Date of Patent: May 15, 2001Inventor: Daniel J. Nelsen
