  • Patent number: 4591091
Abstract: A parallelepipedic aseptic container and a blank therefor formed of a multilayer paperboard laminate material are disclosed. The laminate material comprises a paperboard layer with a thin layer of polyethylene on the outer side thereof and a layer of metal foil disposed between thin layers of polyethylene on the inner side of the paperboard layer. The container blanks are formed such that at one of the container side walls, in an area covered by a folded portion of the top wall, a small pentagonally-shaped opening is partially or completely precut from the paperboard layer before it is laminated to the other layers to form a weakened portion that can be easily cut away to form a pouring opening. Scorelines are formed in the side wall adjacent the weakened portion to cause the wall to project outwardly to facilitate pouring liquids through the opening. A drinking straw/sutting implement is provided with the container for use in cutting away the weakened portion and withdrawing the contents of the container.

  • Patent number: 4537815
Abstract: The drawings and description disclose a heat sealable container for edible oils and other types of oils, and a blank for constructing same, having a laminated wall construction of suitable oil resistant barriers or layers which are compatible with one another insofar as bonding and sealing are concerned. Such wall construction includes central layers of aluminum foil and fluorochemically treated paperboard secured to one another by a suitable adhesive, an ionomer layer, such as Surlyn, formed on each outer paperboard and foil surface, and a layer of thermoplastic material, such as polyethylene, formed on each outer Surlyn surface. As an alternate embodiment in some applications, the Surlyn layer may be omitted from the foil surface, and the outer layer of thermoplastic material may be applied directly to the foil surface.

  • Patent number: 4446971
Abstract: A heat sealable, liquid carrying paperboard carton is disclosed having straw opening means formed in a wall panel thereof. The straw opening means includes a tear strip formed by cuts through the carton wall beginning at the edge of the side panel adjacent the usual underlying fifth panel. A tab is formed to serve as an extension of the tear strip. A block score depression is formed in the wall panel adjoining the tear strip such that the tab is folded onto the depression and sealed thereto, but only minimally due to the depth of the depression, so as to be readily lifted therefrom to initiate the straw hole opening process.

  • Patent number: 4398900
Abstract: The accompanying description and drawings disclose a method of forming a paperboard blank for a gable top type liquid carrying paperboard carton having straw opening means formed in a side panel of the gable top closure structure. The straw opening means includes a tear strip formed by cuts at least halfway through the carton wall beginning at the score line formed at the edge of the side panel adjacent the usual underlying side seam flap. In an alternate embodiment wherein the side seam flap is formed on the reverse end of the carton blank, a tab is formed from material available from the adjacent blank during the scoring and cutting process, and serves as an extension of the tear strip beyond the edge of the gable top side panel.
