  • Patent number: 10030474
Abstract: A method for opening a port through the wall of a ported sub includes providing a sub with a port through its tubular side wall and providing a hydraulically actuable valve to cover the port. The valve can be actuable to move away from a position covering the port to thereby open the port. The method also includes increasing pressure within the sub to create a pressure differential across the valve to move the valve toward the low pressure side, while the port remains closed by the valve, and thereafter, reducing pressure within the sub to reduce the pressure differential to move valve away from a position covering the port.

  • Patent number: 9963962
Abstract: A fluid treatment method includes positioning a tubing string in a non-vertical borehole section, and applying a sliding-sleeve-actuating fluid pressure within the tubing string's inner bore such that a first sliding sleeve moves from a position in which a first port is covered to another position in which the first port is exposed to the inner bore. The method further includes pumping fluid through the first port. The method also includes conveying first and second fluid conveyed sealing devices through the inner bore such that the first and second fluid conveyed sealing device seal against the seats of second and third sliding sleeves, respectively, thereby moving the second and third sliding sleeves to open port positions exposing second and third ports, respectively. The method also includes pumping fluid through the second and third ports to treat first and second portions of the formation, respectively.

  • Publication number: 20170342800
Abstract: A stage tool comprises a body with a tubular wall, defining an outer surface and an inner surface. Fluid ports, such as cement circulation ports, extend through the tubular wall. The stage tool further comprises a primary closing sleeve. The primary closing sleeve may be movable along the outer surface of the tubular wall for closing the ports when the treatment of the wellbore stage ends. A secondary closing sleeve may be movable along the inner surface of the tubular wall for closing the port in case of failure of the primary closing sleeve or for redundancy. The primary closing sleeve may be actuated by an internal member joined to the primary closing sleeve by a crosslink and movable on the inner surface. The internal member and the secondary closing sleeve may move along different surfaces on the internal wall to avoid interference.

  • Publication number: 20170342806
Abstract: A wellbore tubing string assembly with at least one port for communicating fluid between its inner bore and its exterior, can be actuated to move from a port-closed position to a port-exposed position using a series of deformable plugs of the same outer diameter that are placed in the inner bore, and that can deform so as to be squeezed through the inner bore, responsive to an application of force against each of the plugs. The plugs have an interference fit as they engage with the assembly at the inner bore. As a plug is squeezed through the inner bore and out of the assembly, its passage through the assembly is registered. When the number of plugs that have been so registered exceeds a predetermined threshold, the next plug that squeezes through the inner bore will cause the assembly to be actuated to the port-exposed position. The use of plugs having such an interference fit reduces the number of moving parts required to construct the assembly, which makes it more reliable and durable.

  • Publication number: 20170211349
Abstract: A stage tool for wellbore annular cementing may be opened for cementing by hydraulic actuation of a sliding sleeve valve from over a fluid port. After sufficient cement has been introduced, the stage tool fluid port can be closed by compressing two telescopically arranged parts of its tubular body to further overlap each other and overlie the fluid port. This permits the stage tool to be closed without employing a plug.
