  • Patent number: 4201308
Abstract: Improved aqueous or water-based sealant compositions adapted for use as container end sealants are disclosed, which have a relatively high total solids content, are substantially or entirely free of volatile organic solvents, have thixotropic characteristics prior to setting, are settable under air-drying conditions, at ambient temperatures and within requisite periods of time, and are essentially based upon a particular combination of synthetic, elastomeric, high molecular weight polymer components generally provided by or from separate latex forms thereof, and a thixotropic, mineral flow control agent which imparts desirable thixotropic characteristics to the water-based sealants and also serves as a thickener and filler for the sealant and as an extender for the elastomeric polymers thereof, all in an aqueous, stable and uniform form.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 6, 1978
Date of Patent: May 6, 1980
