Publication number: 20240103634Abstract: Techniques for mapping a user input motion includes detecting an input motion by a user, determining an origin for an input motion in a user-centric spherical coordinate system, determining an arc length for the input motion based on the determined origin, mapping the arc length of the input motion to a 2D plane of a user input component, and presenting a movement of a user input component on the 2D plane in accordance with the mapping.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 22, 2023Publication date: March 28, 2024Inventors: Vinay Chawda, Chase B. Lortie, Daniel J. Brewer, Julian K. Shutzberg, Leah M. Gum, Yirong Tang, Alexander T. Wing

Patent number: 7931623Abstract: A trocar system includes a cannula having a cannula head and a cannula tube, and an obturator having a cap and either a rounded tip or a cutting blade. The head and cap form an ergonomically shaped bulbous handle. At least a portion of an outer surface of the cannula head may include a resilient non-slip material. The cannula head may also include a monolithic housing having a port with a Luer Lock fitting and an integrally formed passageway for receiving a stopcock valve.Type: GrantFiled: February 11, 2008Date of Patent: April 26, 2011Assignee: ConMed CorporationInventors: Daniel M. Wing, Deborah A. Laun, Frank J. Witkowski

Patent number: 6989003Abstract: A surgical trocar device having an obturator and cannula that requires less force to insert and remove from tissue. The cannula includes a head assembly and the obturator includes a cap assembly that have cooperating surfaces that bear against each other so that when the obturator is rotated about its axis the obturator is axially deflected within the cannula and thus more easily removed from the tissue into which the obturator is inserted. The tip of the obturator and the end of the cannula are designed to minimize tissue damage and insertion effort by providing a smooth, unencumbered surface transition. In one aspect of the invention, the tip of the cannula is smooth, continuous, and flexible and can radially deflect when the larger-diameter obturator is inserted or withdrawn though the cannula.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 2001Date of Patent: January 24, 2006Assignee: ConMed CorporationInventors: Daniel M. Wing, Stephen J. Scheuermann, Deborah A. Laun

Publication number: 20040260244Abstract: A seal such as a releasably attachable upper seal for a trocar includes a rigid distal support, a rigid proximal support, a rotatable flexible seal having upper portions sandwiched between the supports, a movable ring disposed between the flexible seal and the lower support, and a generally non-compliant, but bendable protective guide attached to the inside of seal. The opening in the ring is sized smaller than the opening in the lower support. Cannulas and trocar systems employing such a seal are also disclosed.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 5, 2004Publication date: December 23, 2004Inventors: Michael E. Piechowicz, Daniel M. Wing
