Patent number: 9942576Abstract: There is a need to provide an intuitive way for a battery-powered device to send a low battery notification to another device that can properly notify a user that the battery-powered device has a low battery. The user can be notified by the other device even after the battery-powered device has exhausted its battery to the point where it can no longer report its battery state. A second electronic device (e.g., a remote control) can send a low battery notification to a first electronic device (e.g., a set-top box) so that the first electronic device can alert a user that the second electronic device has a low battery.Type: GrantFiled: September 22, 2015Date of Patent: April 10, 2018Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Andrew Belk, Alessio Centazzo, Daniel R. Patent number: 9659487Abstract: Utilizing remote control profile information for configuration of a remote control device. A media processing device may store a remote control profile, locally or on a server accessible via a wide area network, which may include information for configuring a remote control device to utilize one or more wireless remote control commands for controlling the media processing device. The media processing device may also detect one or more wireless remote control commands for controlling one or more other electronic devices and update the remote control profile to include information for configuring a remote control device to utilize those commands. It may be determined to configure a remote control device according to the remote control profile based at least in part on proximity of the remote control device to the media processing device. The remote control device may then be configured according to the remote control profile.Type: GrantFiled: May 24, 2016Date of Patent: May 23, 2017Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Liquan Tan, Daniel R. Publication number: 20140047043Abstract: An integrated system allows easily creating and using disposable email addresses. The disposable email address is created by an email server, which manages correspondence using the disposable email address to avoid exposing the associated non-disposable email address. Context information may be associated with a disposable email address, where the context information is not visible in email sent using the disposable email address. Expiration information may also be associated with the disposable email address, where the expiration information defines conditions that cause the disposable email address to expire. Should the disposable address be misused, the associated context may allow a user to recognize what correspondent exposed the disposable address to misuse.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 13, 2012Publication date: February 13, 2014Applicant: APPLE INC.Inventors: Cameron J. Patent number: 7895378Abstract: A method and system for allowing a media player to transfer digital audio to an accessory is disclosed. The method and system comprises sending a play command to the media player; returning information about the media player; and providing digital audio to the accessory based upon the information about the media player. In a system and method in accordance with the present invention a plurality of commands allow a media player to transfer digital audio to an accessory. These commands are used by the media player to gather a list of supported sample rates from the accessory and to inform the accessory of the media player's information.Type: GrantFiled: June 27, 2006Date of Patent: February 22, 2011Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Paul Holden, Daniel R. Patent number: 7826318Abstract: Digital audio can be transferred between a portable media player and an accessory. In one embodiment, an interface protocol is used to determine the sample rate capabilities of an accessory, allowing digital audio data for a track to be transmitted to the accessory at a sample rate supported by the accessory. When the sample rate of an audio track is not supported by the accessory, the media player can convert the sample rate of the track to a rate supported by the accessory and transmit the track after conversion. The media player also can use the interface protocol to inform the accessory if the sampling rate should be changed, e.g., due to tracks having different sample rates. The accessory then can send a request to the media player to change the sample rate. The media player then can transmit the digital audio data using the new sample rate.Type: GrantFiled: June 26, 2007Date of Patent: November 2, 2010Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Paul Holden, Daniel R.
