  • Patent number: 11939900
Abstract: Methods and systems for reducing emissions of an internal combustion engine are described. In one example, an electric heater and a passive NOx absorber or other emissions control device are positioned in a passage downstream of a combustor so as to process emissions from the combustor before an engine is started.

  • Patent number: 11703017
Abstract: Methods and systems for heating an emission control device are provided. In one example, a method for a vehicle comprises during an engine cold start, heating an emission control device of the engine using a dual heat exchanger to heat secondary air and cool exhaust gas, and further heat secondary air with an electric heater. The method further comprises directing the heated secondary air to each exhaust runner of the engine via individual air injectors to mix with exhaust gas. In this way, an improved mixture of air and exhaust reduces catalyst light-off time and increases conversion efficiency, thereby reducing hydrocarbon emissions during engine cold start.

  • Patent number: 11066976
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for improving catalyst function during an engine cold-start. In one example, at key-off, a duration elapsed till a subsequent key-on is predicted based on drive history and spatial awareness data. Then, based on the duration, an identity and order of operating one or more catalyst heating devices is selected.

  • Patent number: 10626811
Abstract: Methods and systems for providing exhaust gas recirculation to a two stroke opposed piston diesel engine are described. In one example, high and low pressure exhaust gas recirculation systems may be activated or deactivated in response to exhaust gas hydrocarbon concentration and particulate matter flow rate from the engine. In addition, operation of the low and high pressure exhaust gas recirculation systems may be responsive to an operating state of a supercharger compressor.

  • Publication number: 20050050844
Abstract: A set of building components for building structures includes a plurality of building components that are configured to enable a plurality of structures to be built. The physical characteristics of the building components enable the building components to be held together in the form of a structures, such as a multi-pointed star, through frictional forces only and without the need for external fastening means such as adhesive, nails, tape, and so on. A building component may have a pair of sides each including a surface with an untreated coefficient of friction. At least one of the sides of the building component includes a treated portion that has a treated coefficient of friction that is different than the untreated coefficient of friction. The treated coefficient of friction may be greater than the untreated coefficient of friction. A building component may be defined by a length and a thickness.
