Publication number: 20170327314Abstract: The present invention is a self adjusting carrier tool that allows for the gripping, lifting, and carrying of objects. The tool is able to lift a large range of object widths without requiring large changes in tool height during operation. It accomplishes this through tongs retained by sliding friction-lock pivots acting against locking arms pivotally attached to opposing tongs. When the handle is lifted the action of these pivots allow the tongs to sweep a constant and effective angle against the the lifted object throughout the working range of the tool. At the limit of tong rotation the sliding friction-lock pivots engage and prevent any further movement of the tongs. Further lifting of the tool by the handle will then result in lifting of the tool and object together. The object will remain secured by the carrier tool until it is unloaded and the floating friction locks disengage.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 16, 2017Publication date: November 16, 2017Applicant: Formed From Function LLC.Inventor: Daniel Thomas Germata

Patent number: 8733384Abstract: A method and system for boosting pipeline gas pressure in a low-pressure gas pipeline in which a supplemental gas supply pipe in fluid communication with a supplemental pipeline gas supply is provided to an interior of a gas pipeline containing a pressurized pipeline gas, where the pressure of the supplemental pipeline gas supply is greater than the pressure of the pressurized pipeline gas. The gas pressure differential between the pressurized pipeline gas and the supplemental pipeline gas supply pressure is measured. When the pressure differential reaches a certain predetermined set value, supplemental pipeline gas is provided from the supplemental pipeline gas supply through the supplemental gas supply pipe into a pipeline space between the gas pipeline and the supplemental gas supply pipe. The flow of supplemental pipeline gas is halted upon achievement of a second predetermined set differential pressure.Type: GrantFiled: October 28, 2010Date of Patent: May 27, 2014Assignee: Gas Technology InstituteInventors: Daniel Allen Ersoy, Daniel Thomas Germata

Patent number: 8536817Abstract: An apparatus for generating a saddle-shaped trajectory for intersection of two cylindrical conduits. The apparatus includes an encoder module, a motorized axial module connected with the encoder module and movable only in a direction parallel to a longitudinal axis of an intersecting cylindrical conduit and a motorized rotatable module connected with the motorized axial module and rotatable around the longitudinal axis of the intersecting cylindrical conduit. Control software provided in one of the modules includes an algorithm providing control of the modules for generation of the saddle-shaped trajectory on the two cylindrical conduits. The algorithm requires input of only a radius of each of the cylindrical conduits.Type: GrantFiled: December 9, 2010Date of Patent: September 17, 2013Assignee: Operations Technology Development, NFPInventors: James Louis, Francis Xavier Hennessey, Daniel Thomas Germata

Patent number: 8296915Abstract: A method for external repair of a leak in an in-service fluid containment vessel in which a fluid venting device is affixed to the outer surface of the fluid containment vessel so as to enable venting of the leaking fluid to the atmosphere during the remainder of the method steps. A composite repair material is applied over the fluid venting device and the fluid containment vessel and allowed to cure. During the curing period, fluid leaking from the fluid containment vessel is vented to the atmosphere. After curing of the composite repair material, a sealant is provided to the leak by way of the fluid venting device.Type: GrantFiled: October 10, 2011Date of Patent: October 30, 2012Assignee: Gas Technology InstituteInventor: Daniel Thomas Germata

Patent number: 7493817Abstract: A method and apparatus for inspecting the walls of an underground pipe from inside the pipe in which an inspection apparatus having a circular planar platform having a plurality of lever arms having one end pivotably attached to one side of the platform, having a pipe inspection device connected to an opposite end, and having a system for pivoting the lever arms is inserted into the underground pipe, with the inspection apparatus oriented with the planar platform disposed perpendicular to the pipe axis. The plurality of lever arms are pivoted toward the inside wall of the pipe, contacting the inside wall with each inspection device as the apparatus is conveyed along a length of the underground pipe.Type: GrantFiled: December 21, 2005Date of Patent: February 24, 2009Assignee: Operations Technology Development, NFPInventor: Daniel Thomas Germata
