Publication number: 20190036675Abstract: A digital receiver includes a digital synthesizer that generates a local oscillating (LO) signal at a selected frequency, and a signal mixer that receives an input signal and generates a mixed output signal in response to shifting a phase of the input signal based on the frequency of the LO signal. A multi-mode dynamic channelizer is selectively operable in a first mode and a second mode. The first mode generates a plurality of individual channels having a channel size defined by a bandwidth and a gain, and the second mode generates a parallelization of a selected channel. In response to operating in the second mode, the multi-mode dynamic channelizer adjusts at least one of the bandwidth and the gain of the selected channel based on the mixed output signal to change the channel size of the selected channel.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 6, 2018Publication date: January 31, 2019Inventors: Daniel Thompson, Harry B. Patent number: 10116322Abstract: A system and method of converting an analog input signal to a linearized digital representation of the analog input signal. A measure of the analog input signal is compared to a threshold associated with a maximum dynamic range of a quantizer. A maximum amplitude of a random, analog dither signal is dynamically varied for perturbing quantization of the analog input signal in response to the comparison. The dynamically varied dither signal and the analog input signal are combined to obtain a dithered input signal. The quantizer converts the dithered input signal into the linearized digital representation of the analog input signal.Type: GrantFiled: December 1, 2017Date of Patent: October 30, 2018Assignee: Raytheon CompanyInventors: Ian S. Robinson, James Toplicar, Daniel Thompson

Patent number: 9965267Abstract: An electronic warfare (EW) devices and a method of providing jamming techniques are generally described. Firmware is updated by eliminating an existing jamming technique, adding a new technique and/or changing parameters of one of the techniques in the firmware. Changing the technique parameters includes adding a new parameter, deleting an existing parameter, changing the range of values for an existing parameter and changing the order of the parameters to be transmitted by an Operational Flight Program (OFP) to the firmware to generate the technique. The OFP reads a published a register mapping specifying parameters to use in generating the jamming techniques in the EW firmware, a range of the parameters and an order of the parameters. The jamming techniques are generated using parameters transmitted by the OFP to the firmware. The same OFP is used to trigger generation of jamming techniques prior to and after the updating of the firmware.Type: GrantFiled: November 19, 2015Date of Patent: May 8, 2018Assignee: Raytheon CompanyInventors: Harry B. Publication number: 20170344341Abstract: Rate domain numerical processing comprises receiving an input serial data stream on a single input wire in which a multi-valued number is represented as a rate of pulse events comprising pulses, null pulses or a combination thereof. The rate of pulse events in an output serial data stream is varied in accordance with an operand to perform a multi-valued arithmetic operation selected from multiplication, division, addition and subtraction or a combination thereof. The rate may be varied by scaling the rate by an operand, which may be implemented using a count and compare circuit topology. The output serial data stream is output on a single output wire. The rate domain operations, specifically multiplication and division are accomplished without the resource & power intensive binary multiplier and binary divisions circuits. The operations are implemented using simple registers, adders, accumulators, counters, comparators, and basic logic, which is far more SWaP-C efficient.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 27, 2016Publication date: November 30, 2017Inventors: Harry Bourne Marr, JR., Jeffery Jay Logan, Daniel Thompson
