  • Publication number: 20180179448
Abstract: A method for the production of a carbon material entirely from raw biomass feedstock for use in connection with a metallurgical production and refining process such as the production of steel, aluminum or silicon. The carbon material has a carbon content of greater than 50% by volume of non-volatile, high purity fixed elemental carbon and includes physical properties such as coking strength, conductivity, density, porosity, surface area and particle size which may be individually modified to meet the requirements of a specific metallurgical application.

  • Publication number: 20180134901
Abstract: A method for the production of a carbon material entirely from raw biomass feedstock for use as a reinforcing agent, a filler or a pigment in rubbers and plastics and as a replacement for carbon black. The carbon material has a carbon content of greater than 50% by volume of non-volatile, high purity fixed elemental carbon, is free of environmentally hazardous chemical compounds and components surface area, and includes specific properties, such as density, hardness, or chemical composition to provide superior properties as a reinforcing agent.

  • Patent number: 9505984
Abstract: The invention provides scalable, modular, mobile systems and methods for the continuous on-site production of carbonaceous pyrolysis by-products having physical properties which may be tailored for specific market requirements. The system includes at least on scalable modular unit having a primary reaction chamber, an input aperture for introducing biomass feedstock and atmosphere into the reaction chamber, an external heat source for initiating an exothermic pyrolysis reaction therein, an internal mechanism for controllably agitating the feedstock, atmosphere and pyrolysis by-products to sustain the reaction at a preselected operating temperature range, and an apparatus for removing the by-products from the systems.

  • Patent number: 9109220
Abstract: An environmental remediation material and method for making the same which include processing an organic material to increase the internal surface and surface pore area thereof through pyrolysis, coating the pyrolyzed material with a non-polar substance to enhance the material's oleophilicity, and applying secondary processing treatments designed to optimize the material for preselected chemical remediation applications. The remediation material is insoluble in aqueous environments, free of environmentally hazardous chemicals or compounds and readily transportable and disposable following use.
    Type: Grant

  • Publication number: 20110278150
Abstract: A system and method for the continuous production of carbonaceous pyrolysis by-products are provided which include one or more pyrolysis reaction chambers adapted to receive a wide variety of feedstock materials, including biomass feedstock. System operating parameters including feedstock input rate, atmosphere composition and flow rate, temperature, reaction mixture stirring and agitation rate are selectively independently controllable to produce an end by-product having desired properties for specific applications, and gaseous reaction by-products may be recycled as a fuel for the pyrolysis reaction, thereby enhancing overall system operating efficiency.
