Patent number: 11349239Abstract: A terminal includes a first connection section having a first connection central axis extending centrally though the first connection section along a longitudinal direction and a shoulder having a first surface extending normal to the longitudinal direction at an end of the first connection section. The shoulder has a width greater than the first connection section in a width direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction and has a shoulder central axis extending centrally though the shoulder along the longitudinal direction. The shoulder central axis is offset from the first connection central axis in the width direction.Type: GrantFiled: October 27, 2020Date of Patent: May 31, 2022Inventors: James Edward Gundermann, John Mark Myer, Hurley Chester Moll, Daniel Williams Fry, Jr., Christopher Lee Allgood, Michael Dale Brown, Eric Torrey

Patent number: 10230184Abstract: An electrical contact for insertion into a hole of a substrate. The electrical contact includes a compliant portion having an opening extending between contact arms. At least one contact arm of the contact arms has a resilient engagement section which extends into the opening of the compliant portion and resilient contacting sections which extend from the engagement section in a direction away from the opening. Upon insertion of the compliant portion into the hole of the substrate, the resilient engagement section of the at least one contact arm engages an opposed contact arm of the contact arms, causing each of the resilient contacting sections to move independently of the resilient engagement section and other resilient contacting sections. Each of the resilient engagement section and the resilient contacting sections are deformed and generate independent retention forces which are combined to generate the total retention force of the compliant portion.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 2017Date of Patent: March 12, 2019Assignee: TE CONNECTIVITY CORPORATIONInventors: John Mark Myer, Hurley Chester Moll, Ronald Louis Marion, Daniel Williams Fry, Jr.

Patent number: 10096917Abstract: An electrical contact includes a compliant portion having an opening extending between contact arms. A first contact arm of the contact arms has multiple resilient engagement sections extending into the opening of the compliant portion and resilient contacting sections extending from the engagement sections in a direction away from the opening. Upon insertion of the compliant portion into the hole of the substrate, the resilient engagement sections of the first contact arm engage an opposed second contact arm of the contact arms, causing each of the resilient contacting sections to move independently of the resilient engagement sections and independently of other resilient contacting sections. Each of the resilient engagement sections and the resilient contacting sections are deformed and generate independent retention forces which are combined to generate the total retention force of the compliant portion.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 2017Date of Patent: October 9, 2018Assignee: TE CONNECTIVITY CORPORATIONInventors: John Mark Myer, Hurley Chester Moll, Ronald Louis Marion, Daniel Williams Fry, Jr.

Patent number: 8790133Abstract: A header connector includes a housing configured to be mounted to a mounting surface of the circuit board and header contacts held by the housing. The header contacts have mating portions and mounting portions. The mounting portions are configured to be surface mounted to corresponding pads on the circuit board. A spring clip is coupled to the housing. The spring clip has a spring finger extending through the circuit board to engage a bottom side of the circuit board opposite the mounting surface of the circuit board. The spring clip pulls the housing and header contacts toward the mounting surface.Type: GrantFiled: October 2, 2012Date of Patent: July 29, 2014Assignee: Tyco Electronics CorporationInventors: John Mark Myer, Hurley Chester Moll, Daniel Williams Fry

Publication number: 20080081519Abstract: A two piece electrical terminal is shown where one part is comprised of a contact member having a contact section in the form of a pin and retention section. A conductor connecting member is comprised of a conductor connecting section and a retaining member. The contact member has a lug extending along one side thereof and the retaining member has a complementary opening which retains the contact member and conductor connecting member together.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 29, 2006Publication date: April 3, 2008Inventors: Daniel Williams Fry, Leo J. Graham, Michael J. Vino, John Mark Myer, Hurley Chester Moll, Forrest I. Kinsey

Patent number: 7086872Abstract: A header assembly includes an insulative contact housing having a plurality of walls defining an interior cavity and an insulative alignment housing having at least one alignment rib extending on an exterior surface thereof. The alignment housing is separately provided and independently mounted to the contact housing. A plurality of contacts are included within the cavity and extend through one of the walls to an exterior of the contact housing wherein the contacts flex against the alignment housing and abut the alignment rib, thereby ensuring coplanarity of the contacts for surface mounting to a circuit board.Type: GrantFiled: March 1, 2005Date of Patent: August 8, 2006Assignee: Tyco Electronics CorporationInventors: John Mark Myer, Hurley Chester Moll, Daniel Williams Fry, Jr.

The insulative housing includes at least one alignment rib extending on an exterior surface thereof in a direction substantially perpendicular to the mating axis. The contacts are formed against and abutting the alignment rib, thereby ensuring coplanarity of the contacts for surface mounting to a circuit board.Type: GrantFiled: February 25, 2005Date of Patent: August 8, 2006Assignee: Tyco Electronics CorporationInventors: John Mark Myer, Craig Maurice Campbell, Charles Randall Malstrom, Daniel Williams Fry, Jr., Hurley Chester Moll
