Publication number: 20240009730Abstract: A method of analyzing water in a continuous casting process and controlling chemical addition to the water may involve measuring, with a plurality of sensors, at least one characteristic of a water in a plurality of different locations of a water recycle system for the continuous casting process. The continuous casting process can have multiple spray nozzles that spray water on a metal being cast, and the water recycle system may include a gravity settling tank, a filter, and a cooling tower. A processor can determine, using the measured at least one characteristic of the water from the plurality of sensors, a composite water quality value for the water in the water recycle system. A chemical additive can be controllably added into the water recycle system based on the determine composite water quality value.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 5, 2023Publication date: January 11, 2024Inventors: Shawn Dalke, Daniel Schwarz, Darlington Mlambo, Rajeev Dilipkumar, Raphael Holtz

Patent number: 10676376Abstract: Methods of modification of zero-valent iron (ZVI) to improve its performance in removing contaminants from a discharge stream. In some aspects, the methods include contacting ZVI-impregnated disks with solutions containing metal cations such as Ni2+, Cu2+, Fe2+, or Pd2+. In some aspects, a wastewater stream is treated with a metal cation solution, then passed over ZVI. Compositions for treating wastewater include ZVI that is modified with a metal cation solution.Type: GrantFiled: September 13, 2017Date of Patent: June 9, 2020Assignee: ECOLAB USA INC.Inventors: Nicholas S. Ergang, Daniel E. Schwarz, Darlington Mlambo, Bruce A. Keiser, Hung Ting Chen

Patent number: 8927637Abstract: A polymer, a composition, and uses for either are disclosed. The polymer is derived from at least two monomers: acrylic-x and an alkylamine, and has attached to the polymer backbone a functional group capable of scavenging at least one metal. The polymer has a polymer backbone with a fluorescing quantity of conjugated double bonds, thereby providing a method for controlling metal scavenging via fluorescence. These polymers have many uses in various media, including wastewater systems.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 2012Date of Patent: January 6, 2015Assignee: Nalco CompanyInventors: Paul J. Zinn, Winston Su, Rebecca L. Stiles, Darlington Mlambo

Patent number: 8632742Abstract: Disclosed are methods for controlling, mercury emissions, and more particularly, to methods for controlling mercury re-emissions from a wet flue gas desulfurizer used in a combustion process. A method of controlling mercury re-emission from a combustion process includes measuring either mercury concentration, oxidation-reduction, potential (ORP), and/or sulfide concentration within a scrubber liquor of a wet flue gas desulpherizer (wFGD); correlating the mercury concentration, ORP, and /or sulfide concentration with an amount of mercury re-emission additive required in the scrubber liquor to reduce and/or prevent mercury re-emission to a selected level; and adjusting the rate of addition of mercury re-emission additive into the scrubber liquor to attain the selected level of mercury re-emission.Type: GrantFiled: October 22, 2012Date of Patent: January 21, 2014Assignee: Nalco CompanyInventors: Bruce A.
