During the school day each teacher carries a small, portable terminal (1) which not only accepts manually entered numeric data, but also produces digital audio recordings of voiced homework assignments, announcements, and comments made by the teacher. Upon leaving at the end of the day, the teacher returns the remote terminal to a centrally located storage rack (2).
