  • Publication number: 20180248617
Abstract: Systems and methods describe synchronizing optical protection switching with an Optical Protection Switch (OPS) including a splitter on a transmit side to both a first fiber path and a second fiber path and a receive switch and monitoring port on a receive side with the receive switch set to only one of the first fiber path and the second fiber path. A method includes, responsive to detection of a fault on the first fiber path, generating a link Forward Defect Indication (FDI) and transmitting the link FDI over a messaging channel downstream; and utilizing the link FDI to generate an Optical Protection Switch Indicator (OPSI) status used by the OPS to cause a switch of the receive switch to the second fiber path.

  • Patent number: 9918148
Abstract: Systems and methods implemented by an all-optical switch configured to switch signals optically in an optical network include receiving and processing call information from a messaging/signaling session, wherein the call information relates to one or more calls on ports in the all-optical switch; and configuring the ports in the all-optical switch in the network based on the processed call information. The call information can include detection of one of a fault and a lockout on the one or more ports and an indication of faults in the optical network. One of a control plane and an SDN controller can be connected to the all-optical switch via the messaging/signaling session.

  • Patent number: 9756405
Abstract: Systems and methods for controlling an optical switch via one of a control plane and Software Defined Networking (SDN) include associating one or more managed endpoints with one or more line ports of an optical switch; receiving state information for the one or more managed endpoints over a session associated with one of the control plane and the SDN; and controlling switching of the one or more line ports based on the state information for the one or more managed endpoints. The optical switch is an all-optical device which does not have access to digital signal quality information of associated signals.

  • Publication number: 20070206512
Abstract: A network topology data record provides a information upon the basis of which a network topology can automatically be generated. A topology resolution record can include network element or shelf/path data, as well as relationship data including a network element grouping identifier, such as a site identifier. The record can also include affiliation data, such as line adjacency, associated shelf adjacency, photonic adjacency, and service layer device adjacency. A network topology is generated, without user input, based on the automatically discovered network topology information. Topology resolution data is stored at the network level, without need for interaction with a management layer. The data record also enables a graphical user interface for network management in which a user can switch and zoom between a plurality of views in a context-sensitive manner, each view showing relationship or interconnection information for the network elements.
