  • Publication number: 20100089275
Abstract: In a particular embodiment, the invention is directed to a mass transit system that includes a vehicle, a track support, a first vehicle support flange and a second vehicle support flange. The vehicle has a center of mass. The track support is cylindrical and hollow. The first vehicle support flange is connected to the track support at a first elevation. The second vehicle support flange is connected to the track support at a second elevation that is different than the first elevation. The first and second vehicle support flanges are configured to support the vehicle on one side of the center of mass of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 5901650
Abstract: A method of operating an automotive production line including the steps of advancing a plurality of self-propelled carriages along a conveyor of the production line. The carriages are continuously advanced at a fixed operational speed and a fixed operational pitch to obtain a fixed processing time at a plurality of work stations along the production line. Any one of the carriages are stopped when a reduced pitch is obtained due to a stoppage of the immediately preceding carriage. The reduced pitch is less than the operational pitch and is preferably the minimum pitch available between the carriages. Stopped carriages are restarted when the reduced pitch returns to the operational pitch due to the restarting of the immediately preceding carriage. Production losses are reduced by continuing operations upstream of a stoppage to form a dynamic online buffer upstream of the stoppage.

  • Patent number: 4664366
Abstract: A fixture for establishing stop surfaces against which a workpiece can be held to accurately locate it during robotic machine tool operations. The fixture includes a table surface having frusto-conical openings arranged in a preselected pattern to receive locator pins. Each locator pin has a frusto-conical base which automatically centers itself in the opening so that a robotic machine can insert the pins without having to first precisely align them with the openings. Each locator pin is locked in its opening by a releaseable slide mechanism which acts against the pin on opposite sides by wedging action to securely hold the pin down on the table.
