Abstract: A method comprises obtaining text segments from information pushed to a computing device and displaying the text segments in a textpane on a display associated with the computing device. The method further comprises obtaining text segments from information pulled to the computing device and displaying them in the textpane as well. Still further, the method comprises responding to a user indication directed at a particular text segment displayed in the textpane, by launching an application or sending a message from a first application to a second application. By integrating both pushed and pulled information into the same textpane, screen real estate on the display of a computing device is conserved. A computer user is then able to monitor a large number of disparate information sources while they focus their work in a particular application.

Abstract: A novel method for automatically connecting a mobile device to a wireless network is presented. The goal of the automatic connection of a mobile device to a wireless network is to provide a rapid wireless network connection for a mobile device when it comes into range of a desired network while reducing rf emissions when the mobile device is not in range of a desired wireless network. The method focuses on adjusting the time between network connection attempts when the mobile device is not connected to a network. The method increases the time between network connection attempts when the mobile device is stationary and decreases the time between network connection attempts when the mobile device is moving.

Abstract: A novel method for automatically connecting a mobile device to a wireless network is presented. The method focuses on adjusting the time between network connection attempts when the mobile device is not connected to a network. Once a network connection is established, the method idles, simply monitoring the network connectivity of the mobile device. When the mobile device disconnects from a network, the connection attempt cycle is once again enabled.
