Abstract: Methods and systems for enabling activation of a wireless communication device to operate with a server on a wireless communication network. An activation request is pushed from the server to the device, the activation request being authenticated with a signature signed with a server certificate. After the device verifies the activation request using server certificate and signature, a mutually authenticated communication session is established between the device and the server for activation of the device on the server.

Abstract: An indoor positioning system and method that correlates map locations to respective wireless access point (AP) fingerprints, and wherein each wireless AP fingerprint is a plurality of wireless AP signal measurements associated with the correlated map location. The method includes receiving position-inference data associated with a user; determining a probable location inside the building based on the position-inference data; receiving wireless AP signal measurements detected by a wireless device associated with the user; associating the probable location with the wireless device based on the association between the position-inference data and the user of the wireless device; and updating the wireless AP fingerprint correlated to the probable location using the received wireless AP signal measurements. The method and system use crowd-sourcing to build and refine the wireless AP fingerprints.

Abstract: A method, device and system are provided for automated insertion of message conversation or thread participant changes in a message body prior to receipt of the message by a recipient of the reply message. Once a reply message is initiated at a first device and an initial recipient set defined for the reply message based on the participants of a previous message of the thread, one or more changes may be made to the recipients specified for the message. In response to a trigger detected at the device, changes to the initial recipient set are identified and indicated by a textual or other notification within the body of the reply message, rather than merely in a header or addressing portion of the reply message. The indication may then be viewable using a recipient messaging client even if header information reflecting the change in recipients is not displayed by the client.

Abstract: Methods and devices for detecting unauthorized access to credentials of a credential store on a computing device are disclosed herein. In one broad aspect, the method comprises monitoring a plurality of credentials of the credential store accessed within a period associated with a first setting, and responsive to determining that a number of credentials accessed within the period exceeds a threshold associated with a second setting, outputting, in a user interface, an indication of potential unauthorized access to the credential store. In at least one embodiment, each of the credentials accessed within the period is associated with a different user account.

Abstract: A method of operating a mobile device is provided, the method comprising: pairing the mobile device with a second device; having the second device poll a network service on behalf of the mobile device; and obtaining data provided by the network service. A method of operating on behalf of a mobile device is also provided, the method comprising: pairing a second device with the mobile device; polling a network service on behalf of the mobile device; and enabling data provided by the network service to be sent to the mobile device.

Abstract: An apparatus, and an associated method, for providing secured effectuation of a communication service at a substitute mobile station. A user desiring temporarily to use a substitute mobile station to carry out the communication service initiates a request at the mobile station for its use. The communication service is available to be performed at the substitute mobile station for a selected period. Upon termination of the selected period, the communication service session ends, and data associated with the communication service session is deleted from the substitute mobile station.

Abstract: Portable electronic devices typically have reduced computing resources, including reduced screen size. The method, apparatus and system of the present specification provides, amongst other things, an intermediation server configured to access network content that is requested by a portable electronic device and to analyze the content including analyzing images in that content. The intermediation server is further configured to accommodate the computing resources of the portable electronic device as part of fulfilling content requests from the portable electronic device.

Abstract: A method, performed by a mobile device, for managing electronic tickets, the method comprising receiving an electronic ticket, identifying private information and public information on the ticket, and displaying the ticket on a display of the mobile device to show only the public information of the ticket. A related method entails displaying an electronic ticket, receiving input to provide payment credentials in relation to the electronic ticket, and transmitting the payment credentials via a short-range transceiver on the mobile device.

Abstract: Songs titles and song artists or other content received on an HD-radio are cross-referenced to one or more geographic locations where they were heard on the radio by identifying a song title or artist in the HD radio data stream and instructing a global positioning system navigation unit to contemporaneously determine its location. The determined location and song title and/or artist are cross-referenced to each other in a list or database. A touch-sensitive display device is configured to display the location or portion of a route where a listened-to song was heard. Song titles and/or artists can be determined by tactile selection of portions of a route displayed on the map.

Abstract: A method is provided for sharing data, stored on a central data store, between a first user and a secondary user. The method comprises the following steps. A share request message is received from the first user. The share request message includes a data identifier for identifying which of the data stored on the central data store is to be shared with the secondary user, and a user identifier for identifying the secondary user. The data to be shared is associated with an account of the secondary user for subsequent access by the secondary user. A system and computer readable medium configured to implement the method are also described.

In one broad aspect, the method comprises receiving a request to store, in the credential store, at least one credential for a specified service, determining whether a secure connection between the computing device and the specified service is available, associating the specified service with a level of security based on at least one of an availability of the secure connection or one or more properties of the secure connection, and providing a warning in response to determining that at least one credential stored in the credential store corresponds to the at least one credential for the specified service and is for a service that is associated with a level of security different from the level of security with which the specified service is associated.

Abstract: A method and device to simplify message reply composition on a communications device, using a partially transparent overlay to allow a user to freely scroll and move around to other sections of a message or message chain while still being able to see and edit the reply being composed. When the reply is scrolled such that the composition field is not visible on the display screen, the device displays the overlay when the user enters text or on user request. The user may then type text into the overlay while viewing the underlying portion of the reply message, such as previous messages in the string.

The method comprises: receiving a calendar event invitation message addressed to at least one recipient device and storing the calendar event invitation message in a memory; determining, at a processor, whether to disable at least one recipient device function; when the determination is affirmative, generating a recipient policy including a recipient device function identifier, and a rule associated with the function identifier; and deploying the recipient policy for the at least one recipient device such that the function is disabled at the recipient device for at least a period of time.

Abstract: A method of selecting a group of files on an electronic device. The method includes rendering a slide bar on a display of the electronic device, the slide bar configured to display a time period corresponding to a temporal characteristic of one or more of multiple files stored in memory of the electronic device, responsive to user manipulation of the slide bar adjusting the time period represented by the slide bar, and responsive to user input creating an album and placing the files having temporal characteristic within the adjusted time period in the album.

Abstract: A device and method for placing the device in a locked state having an associated set of permitted tasks so as to permit the device owner to share the device with others but maintain security over aspects of the device. A task change request is evaluated to determine whether the requested task is permitted and, if so, the requested task is allowed; if not, then an authorization process is invoked to prompt the user to input authorization data. Upon verification of the authorization data, the device may be unlocked and the requested change implemented. The permitted tasks may designate specific applications, specific operations or functions within applications or at the operating system level, one or more currently open windows, and other levels of granularity.

Abstract: According to embodiments described in the specification, a method, system and apparatus for generating notification signals are provided. The method includes storing an identifier of a slave device in a memory of a master device; detecting, at a processor interconnected with the memory, a notification message via execution of a notification application; in response to detecting the notification message, retrieving the slave device identifier and transmitting an instruction message to the slave device, the instruction message including an identifier of the notification message and an alert parameter; and generating an alert via an output device interconnected with the processor according to the alert parameter.
