Abstract: An apparatus includes a first housing portion comprising a first adjustable gripping system moveable between an engaged position that grips a cylindrical outer surface of a first tubular structure having a first diameter and a disengaged position that permits relative movement of the first housing portion and the first tubular structure. The apparatus also includes a second housing portion fixed relative to the first housing portion so that rotation of the first housing portion results in rotation of the second housing portion. The second housing portion includes a second gripping system to securely grip a cylindrical outer surface of a second tubular structure that is threadably attached to the first tubular structure and has a second diameter different than the first diameter. Methods of breaking tubing hanger connections are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 8485828
Abstract: Certain examples provide systems/apparatus, methods, and articles of manufacture for blood collection/processing instrument operator training and troubleshooting. Certain examples provide a system for platelet resuspension training. The system includes an interactive training application, provided via a mobile device, to train a user to resuspend platelets in a liquid medium prior to its storage and/or transfusion to a patient. The training application is to instruct the user regarding an appropriate motion and vigor for resuspension of platelets in a blood container associated with a blood processing instrument. The system includes a sensor to detect the user's motion of the mobile device. The system includes a processor to compare the user's motion of the mobile device to the appropriate motion and vigor for resuspension of platelets in a blood container and provide feedback to the user regarding the comparison.

  • Patent number: 8463204
Abstract: In order to maintain isolation of signals within a multiport amplifier of a communications satellite and to reduce cross-talk components, by monitoring communications signals passing through the multiport amplifier, output signals of the multiport amplifier are sensed and downconverted to baseband, and applied to an emulator mechanism of the multiport amplifier. The emulator mechanism comprises a reverse matrix of the multiport amplifier, which recovers the input signals of the multiport amplifier together with cross-talk components, and a digital signal processor which carries out a frequency analysis of the cross-talk components by means of an FFT, and employs a digital model of the multiport amplifier to determine the state of the multiport amplifier which gives rise to such cross-talk components. The digital signal processor may be located at a ground station to which communication is made via a telemetry link.
