  • Publication number: 20040082297
Abstract: Accelerated test of wireless devices. During normal device operation, protocol-specified delays in acknowledging received messages have the effect of reducing channel congestion, for example by piggybacking acknowledgements. When operating in a test environment, these protocol-specified delays are reduced or eliminated, thus reducing test time and increasing tester throughput. A first embodiment reduces or eliminates these protocol-specified delays in the tester. A second embodiment reduces or eliminates these protocol-specified delays in both the tester and the device under test.

  • Publication number: 20020075906
Abstract: Signal transmission systems for second and third generation mobile communications networks are described. A signal distribution system comprises a plurality of rf transmitters for serving a plurality of network cells. The system is characterised by a multiplexer coupled to the transmitters for multiplexing the transmitter outputs, a signal transporter for transporting the multiplexed signals to each of the network cells, and a multiplexed signal receiver at each cell for selecting and receiving a signal from a transmitter serving the cell. The invention also provides a complementary signal reception system, and corresponding methods. Preferably, the multiplexed signals are transported over a fibre optic network such as an existing cable TV network. The system simplifies the deployment of network infrastructure for third generation mobile communications systems.

  • Patent number: 6193862
Abstract: According to the invention, there is provided a protector strip (10) for an edge zone of an electrode plate (40), said protector strip (10) including a first channel shaped member (11) of relatively resilient material adapted, in use, to engage over the edge zone of the electrode plate, and a second channel shaped member (12) of relatively more rigid material separate to said first channel shaped member (11) adapted, in use, to engage over the first channel shaped member (11) to press at least a portion of said first channel shaped member (11) into sealing engagement with the edge zone of the electrode plate (40).

  • Patent number: 6023504
Abstract: A UIFN toll free service is provided and controlled by control units 11 and 12 that communicate with each other using a separate data networks. The control units arrange the connection of calls on a telephone network. The calls are monitored and billing created for appropriate UIFN customers by the control units. In one embodiment, each call is established by a TNO control unit, as if the customer had initiated the toll free call. Such calls are then treated automatically, especially for billing, as normal IDD calls made by the TNO customer.

  • Patent number: 5657375
Abstract: A wireless digital personal communications system (or PCS) having a plurality of intelligent base stations and portable handset terminals, each having a predetermined radio cell coverage area. The radio cell, radio-telephone PCS has a full digital network interface. The personal communications system facilitates direct interconnection and switching of PCS call traffic through the digital network interface and the public switched telephone network, or any switched network. The personal communications system has voice/data/image (or any combination thereof), and incoming and outgoing calling capability. The PCS is fully operational and compatible with any modulation approach selected. The intercell protocol hand-off being provided through distributed logic which is implemented in software that is resident in the intelligent portable handset terminals, in the intelligent base stations, and in the public switched telephone network (or any switched network).

Abstract: A wireless digital personal communications system (or PCS) having a plurality of intelligent base stations and portable handset terminals, each having a predetermined radio cell coverage area. The radio cell, radio-telephone PCS has a full ISDN interface. The personal communications system facilitates direct interconnection and switching of PCS call traffic through the ISDN interface and the public switched telephone network, or any switched network. The personal communications system has voice/data/image (or any combination thereof), and incoming and outgoing calling capability. The PCS is fully operational and compatible with any modulation approach selected The intercell protocol hand-off being provided through distributed logic which is implemented in software that is resident in the intelligent portable handset terminals, in the intelligent base stations, and in the public switched telephone network (or any switched network).
