  • Publication number: 20090277193
Abstract: A dynamic system controls indoor relative humidity and temperature to achieve specified conditions by applying multiple stages of dehumidification. In addition to a stage that increases dehumidification by reducing the speed of the indoor blower, the system uses a reheat coil and multiple valves that allow the reheat coil to function as either a subcooling coil or a partial condenser. Thus the system can maintain specified indoor temperature and humidity conditions even at times when no heating or cooling is needed. The system may have an outdoor condensing unit including a compressor and a condenser operably connected via refrigerant lines to an indoor unit to form a “split system” refrigerant loop.

  • Patent number: 7596915
Abstract: A method of forming an insulated concrete foundation is provided comprising constructing a foundation frame, the frame comprising an insulating form having an opening, inserting a pocket former into the opening; placing concrete inside the foundation frame; and removing the pocket former after the placed concrete has set, wherein the concrete forms a pocket in the placed concrete that is accessible through the opening. The method may further comprise sealing the opening by placing a sealing plug or sealing material in the opening. A system for forming an insulated concrete foundation is provided comprising a plurality of interconnected insulating forms, the insulating forms having a rigid outer member protecting and encasing an insulating material, and at least one gripping lip extending outwardly from the outer member to provide a pest barrier. • Publication number: 20070227721
Abstract: A method is provided for nighttime pre-cooling of a building comprising inputting one or more user settings, lowering the indoor temperature reading of the building during nighttime by operating an outside air ventilation system followed, if necessary, by a vapor compression cooling system. The method provides for nighttime pre-cooling of a building that maintains indoor temperatures within a comfort range based on the user input settings, calculated operational settings, and predictions of indoor and outdoor temperature trends for a future period of time such as the next day. The method reduces energy costs and minimizes energy consumption during periods of peak electric demand.

  • Patent number: 6393586
Abstract: Method and apparatus for conveniently diagnosing and conveying to a user the cause of a catastrophic failure during POST of a non-booting PC is described. In one embodiment, when an ID code identifying a POST procedure is written to port 80h, the ID code is also written to a POST code field in a non-volatile memory device. If the PC “hangs” prior to completion of POST, there will be a non-zero byte in the POST code field identifying which POST procedure resulted in the hang. Accordingly, if during boot-up of the PC, a non-zero byte is detected in the POST code field, the ID code will be beeped to the user to identify the POST procedure that caused the PC to hang. If POST completes successfully, the POST code field is set to zero and POST continues through the normal sequence.

  • Patent number: 5936608
Abstract: A computer system and methodology for controlling the brightness of visual objects displayed on an electron beam flat panel display monitor used in a computer system having a multitasking operating system and a graphics controller coupled to the display monitor. The display control system includes an operating rules module, an activity monitoring module, and a palette manager module. The operating rules module identifies one or more predetermined conditions of operating system events; which require a variation in the brightness of selected visual objects pertaining to the predetermined conditions. The activity monitoring module monitors and filters the operating system events for the predetermined conditions and transmits instructions to a palette manager module to vary the brightness of the selected visual objects when a predetermined condition has been met. The palette manager module varies the brightness of the selected visual objects using the graphics controller.

  • Patent number: 5542260
Abstract: An underfloor cooling system for cooling a building structure has tubing located in or under a massive floor of the structure for circulating water through the system. The water is directed through a cooling means connected to the tubing to cool the water. The cool water is then returned to the tubing to cool the massive floor and passively cool the structure. The cooling means may be a direct evaporative cooler or an evaporative radiative roof spray system. The cooling means may be located outdoors. The system may additionally include active cooling delivery such as at least one fan coil or at least one hydronic panel, through which cool water from the underfloor tubing is circulated to provide cool air to the structure.

  • Patent number: 5174128
Abstract: A roofing system for a structure having a roof deck with upstanding edges about the perimeter of the roof deck, includes a waterproof membrane on the roof deck and extending from edge-to-edge. A reservoir is defined by the waterproof membrane and edges and may contain a liquid therein, but some embodiments may operate without the reservoir. At least one insulating panel is provided above the liquid reservoir and covers the waterproof membrane on the roof deck from edge-to-edge. A pump has an inlet within the reservoir and an outlet communicating with the surrounding environment for selectively spraying liquid from the reservoir or other source onto the external surface of the panel to cool the liquid in the reservoir. Drains in the panel provide communications between the external surface of the panel and the reservoir for permitting drainage of liquid on the external surface into the reservoir.
