  • Patent number: 9341009
Abstract: One aspect is a multi-axis clip hinge with a rotatable member having a spherical portion with a greatest outer diameter and a coupling portion for articulating said member. A clip is provided having an arm defining an inside diameter and comprising a connecting portion. The inside diameter of the arm is less than the greatest outer diameter of the spherical portion of the rotatable member and is engaged therewith such that it interferes with and grips the outside diameter of the spherical portion. A housing is configured to engage the connection portion of the clip thereby securing the clip to the housing. At least one of the clip and the housing prevents relative translational movement of the clip relative to the spherical portion yet allows the spherical portion to rotate in three axes of rotation relative to the clip.

  • Patent number: 6530123
Abstract: The present invention is a friction torque hinge and method for making the same. The friction torque hinge comprises a rotatable shaft, at least one frictional element and an element housing. The frictional elements are mounted on and frictionally engage the shaft. The frictional elements have an outer element shape. The element housing has an inner cavity with a shape that matches the outer element shape of the frictional elements. The element housing contacts substantially the entire outer element shape of the plurality of frictional elements. This prevents relative rotation of the element housing and the frictional elements.

  • Patent number: 5771539
Abstract: The present invention is a spring hinge for generating torque. The spring hinge includes a shaft and a single helical element. The shaft has a surface with an outer diameter and is capable of rotation. The single helical element is wrapped about the shaft. The helical element includes a first end and a second end. The helical element produces a variable torque between the first and second ends.

  • Patent number: 5464083
Abstract: A spring hinge and method of making same are disclosed. The spring hinge has a housing enclosing the spring and its associated shaft. The housing includes projections adjacent the ends of the spring such that upon rotation of the spring in either direction, an end of the spring is engaged by the housing and the spring is caused to expand into the "wrap open" condition.

  • Patent number: 5301101
Abstract: Disclosed is an adaptive and predictive controller having self tuning capabilities. The receding horizon window and sample interval are determined by the tunning mechanism automatically, based on the relationship between the controlled and manipulated variables. The interval and window may be set by the user as well. Constraints on the manipulated and controlled variables at the end of the horizon window are accommodated automatically. In addition to providing servo regulatory control the invention teaches simultaneous minimization of operating costs.
