    Abstract: A fiber reinforced polymer matrix composite shell for covering the elastomeric layer surrounding the antenna of a measurement-while-drilling borehole formation evaluation tool is disclosed. The shell protects the elastomeric layer and associated antenna from wear and abrasion. If damaged during drilling, the shell may be replaced at the drillsite with minimal downtime.
