  • Patent number: 6679820
Abstract: There is provided a method for limiting an operating speed of a rotor installed in a centrifuge system. The method includes the steps of (a) determining whether an actual change in energy required to accelerate the rotor from a first speed to a second speed is within a predetermined range of an expected change in energy required to accelerate the rotor from the first speed to the second speed, and (b) limiting the operating speed when the actual change in energy is not within the predetermined range of the expected change in energy.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: January 20, 2004
    Assignee: Kendro Laboratory Products, LP
Inventors: David Alan Barkus, Raymond Gary Potter
  • Publication number: 20020117477
Abstract: A modular arc chamber assembly suitable for use in a cassette assembly in a circuit breaker comprising: an electrically insulative first side member, an electrically insulative second side member; a plurality of plates disposed between said first and second side members and arranged in a stacked spaced-apart relationship, and an arc runner plate disposed at one end and between the first and second side members capable of directing an arc to an arc dissipating chute comprised of the plurality of arc plates.

  • Publication number: 20020077240
Abstract: A method for limiting an operating speed of a centrifuge rotor includes the steps of determining whether an actual parameter value of the rotor is within a predetermined range of an expected parameter value of the rotor, and limiting the operating speed when the actual parameter value is not within the predetermined range of the expected parameter value. At least one of the following parameters is evaluated: (i) energy required to accelerate the rotor from rest to a predetermined speed, (ii) change in energy required to accelerate the rotor from a first speed to a second speed, (iii) energy loss due to windage of the rotor, (iv) time required to accelerate the rotor from a first speed to a second speed, (v) speed of the rotor at a predetermined time, and (vi) ratio of drag coefficient and inertia.
