Abstract: An apparatus, method, and computer program product are described that determine a subset of users from a predefined distribution list based on a common characteristic of members of the subset. A common characteristic may be the fact that members of the subset have been determined to be proximate the source user's device. The source user may communicate (e.g., share content) with members of the identified subset through selection of the distribution list, while non-members of the subset would be excluded from the communication.

Abstract: An apparatus, method, and computer program product are described that provide for an active digital bezel area on a display of a device. Touch input may be received in a bezel area provided on the display, where user interaction with content presented within the bezel area at a location corresponding to the location of the touch input is initially disabled. A force component of the touch input may be detected and compared to a predetermined force threshold. In cases in which the force component of the touch input exceeds the predetermined force threshold, user interaction with the content at that location may be enabled. In this way, the force exerted by the user in applying a touch input in the bezel area may be considered an indication of the user's intent to interact with corresponding content within the bezel, and such interactions may be provided for accordingly.

Abstract: An apparatus, method, and computer program product are described that provide for the selection of a device from among one or more devices that is best suited to receive and process content. Upon receipt of input from a user designating a target user with whom content is to be shared, at least one device associated with the designated target user is identified. A capability of one or more of the identified devices to experience the content to be shared is then determined. One of the identified devices is then selected to receive the content at least partially based on the capability determined. In this way, the content is shared with one of the designated target user's devices that is most appropriate for receiving the particular content, providing the target user with the best experience of the content and at the same time allowing for a “user-centric” content sharing experience.

Abstract: A method is provided for presenting information on a display to a user when the display is operating, at least in part, in a locked or low-power mode. In particular, an example method may include providing for operation of a device in an unrestricted mode, and receiving an indication that an area presented on a display of the device is a designated area, where another area of the display that is not the designated area is an undesignated area. The designated area may include designated information while the undesignated area may include undesignated information. The method may further include providing for operation of the device in a restricted mode, where the designated information is presented in the restricted mode and the undesignated information is not presented in the restricted mode.

Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided to facilitate sharing of content including, but not limited to, the sharing of content between people who are co-located. In the context of a method, an indication is received of the content to be shared with a recipient and context information indicative of an intended use of the content by the recipient is associated with the content. The method also causes a representation of the content and the associated context information to be shared with the recipient. The method may also generate the context information based on at least one of the location of the content, a recent action performed on the content or a change made to the content.

Abstract: An apparatus, method, and computer program product are described that provide for a user to share content with other users who are proximate to his or her device in a simple and intuitive manner. In some embodiments, a “wave” gesture is used to identify users of devices that nearby to the source user's device with whom the source user may communicate, such as to share content. Upon receiving a first orientation input, a scanning mode may be initiated during which one or more devices proximate the apparatus are determined. A second orientation input that is different from the first orientation input, and the scanning mode may be terminated in response. As a result, a communication with at least one selected device of the one or more devices determined to be proximate the apparatus may be facilitated.

Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer program product are provided in order to augment an image of a location with a representation of a transient object. In the context of a method, an image of a location to be presented is identified. The method also includes identifying a transient object that is not in the image of the location, but that is anticipated to be at the location during at least one period of time. The method further includes causing the image of the location to be presented with augmentation that provides a representation of the transient object. A corresponding apparatus and computer program product are also provided.

Thus, the interactive content item may be presented in a non-bezel area of the display, and the user may be able to interact with the interactive content item without being hindered by the bezel that is ultimately presented.

The source user may be able to visually identify which of the users are co-located or share other common characteristics.
