  • Patent number: 8422406
Abstract: A system and method that allows different participants in a conference call to be identified at a receiving terminal includes watermarking speech data when the uplink information from the terminals of the participants is received at the telecommunications network. The speech data is then combined at a conference bridge in the network and is transmitted in the downlink to the receiving terminal. The receiving terminal uses the watermarks to identify from which of the participants the received speech data originated and is operable to reproduce the speech data from the respective participants at different positions in a 2D or 3D space to help the user of the receiver terminal to identify contributions made by the respective participants.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 18, 2008
Date of Patent: April 16, 2013
    Assignee: Vodafone Group PLC
    Inventors: David Ashbrook, David Pollington
  • Patent number: 8190747
Abstract: An application manager configured for use on a resource-limited device, the application manager including: an application engine configured to effect communications between a plurality of applications installed on the resource limited device and one or more external network sites; and a connection manager configured to control and/or coordinate when the plurality of applications are able to attempt to establish communications with the one or more external network sites. The resource-limited device may be a mobile terminal.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 7, 2008
Date of Patent: May 29, 2012
    Assignee: Vodafone Group Services Limited
Inventors: James Irwin, David Pollington, David Ashbrook
  • Patent number: 8126517
Abstract: An arrangement and technique for providing an educated indication of battery consumption for any particular mobile terminal usage type. This allows the user to be provided with an accurate indication of the battery life remaining for the current usage type and also the battery life that is remaining for any other possible use of the mobile terminal. The mobile terminal preferably uses historical and/or statistical profiling for the different usage types to provide a meaningful indication of remaining battery life for at least one different usage type at any one time. In particular, the indication preferably includes a time representation that is specific to a usage type. The different usage types may include mobile television, game playing and voice calls.

  • Publication number: 20080268770
Abstract: A telecommunications system is disclosed which includes a content server 30 for distributing content and a device 1 for receiving this content during a communication session and for reproducing this content. The device 1 is operable during the communication session to transmit to the content server an indication of a quality of the received content required by the device 1. The content server 30, in response to this indication, adjusts the content that is transmitted thereafter to the device 1. For example, this indication of a quality could be an indication that only audio or only video content should be transmitted to the terminal, or an indication of the quality with which video and/audio content should be transmitted to the terminal. Indication may be generated by the device 1 automatically in response to the conditions in which the device 1 is being used, or may be manually selected by the user of the device 1.
